Airport Security Question (UK)

Way to publicise your tax evasion strategy.

Now it's pointless. SOCA have already gotten your name, address, photograph and travel itinerary (if you already had one). They'll be waiting for your return.

I know someone else who buys silver coins - says its a good time to invest as money isn't worth much.

ive been investing in silver for a while now

its just going up and up and up

its at quite a high but i reckon its going to double still

Yeah, someone i know has a son doing it to pay for his uni. The only thing he said was that you need a fair amount of capital.

this is just a hypothetical thread as to what might happen if one did try it.. for the point of discussion

no one is actually going to attempt it, that would just be silly

you can invest how ever much you want (have)

if it goes up 20%, you made 20%

thats still a great return, even if its just a small amount you invested, still better than sticking it in the bank

obviously the more you have , the more you stand to make

The silver is already available to me under spot price, whereas I'd have to buy gold above. However I think I'll leave it tbh, not worth the risk. Knowing my luck I'd get caught and have it confiscated. :o

It would have to be at least 30% below spot to make that risk anything like worthwhile

Well no, you don't show them your US invoices. Just your UK ones. Then hope the dappy security don't realise the big embossed "UNITED STATES SILVER BULLION" on each bar. :D

I know this will sound odd but I actually have some silver bullion on my desk :o

There is no country of origin or serial number, just the name of the mint, suppose that would make it easy to trace

most silver bullion from the US is marked. Anything you would buy new in a quantity anyway

it's possible but nowhere near enough of an edge to cover the risk

the risk of brining it in ? or the risk of investing in silver?

i was saying that silver is a better investment than gold

i was not saying it was worth the risk to try to bring it in through an airport

I've never seen someone there actually checking people. Do they do it at all times?

I've had my luggage checked twice when returning to the UK , both times were at Newcastle, also had my hand lugguage searched whilst transferring, twice, both at Sydney

1st time was about 12 yrs ago, me and my friend had been to Tennerife and returned with nearly 4k cigarettes each in our suitcases, customs guy asked if we had anything to declare to which we said no, he patted down the sides of our cases then let us go, not exactly a thorough check

2nd time was arriving back from Thailand , my mate had a hand painted poster that he'd bought and was stored in a long tube which is apparently suspicious, our cases were opened but not rummaged around then we were asked a series of questions , didn't take long

the ones in Sydney involved a complete search of the bags , drugs scan, questioning about the camera gear i was carrying, where I bought it,how long I had owned it, why I was carrying so much, etc, I guess they were trying to catch me out on something ?

the female customs officer sighed, remarked that her husband was into photography and that it bored her to death then let me go on my way lol

Ah ok, my mistake. :)

i speak from my "my mates" personal experience

i wouldnt want to guarantee what would happen to anyone else but logically it makes sense that they wouldnt care.

its not illegal until you walk in to "nothing to declare" and i would never suggest that to anyone

pay your VAT people, its the law

:)
