Why would anyone sli 590's?!??!?!??!?!??!?

if you want a small Nvidia 3D surround rig, then two 590's in quad SLI are your best bet.

its also a lot cheaper than 580's in SLI. (i dont think the 400 series can do 3D surround)

as for 4x oc'd 480's in SLI, can you imagine the heat produced by them, and the power needed to run that stuff. we're talking 1500W minimum.

590's do have their place, but for most occasions i'll be honest, there is a much better solution

two 460gtxs can handle 3d surround in most games with smooth frame rate (with the occasional setting set to low ) remember in 3d, lots of games dont allow you to have full settings as it effects the 3d, eg shadows is most common problem and gives you a good fps boost when turned off. Also AA, in 3d you dont really notice it.

My 460gtx sli setup gets me around 60fps in the games i play in 3d, i suspect with another 2 monitors (3 x 1920x1080 ) i would still get good fps in 3d.
i mostly play rfactor, live for speed, race on, minecraft, CSS, BFBC2, MOH. None of those games are terribly power hungry games. if you want to play metro 2033 in 3d surround with playable FPS. then 590GTX quad SLI is your best bet or 3 280gtxs.

two 590s is NOT a small nvidia 3d surround rig...two 590s is just...a nuclear power plant.

veering off topic again, but if you just watercooled the 590, would you then be able to get it to the exact equivilant of 2x 580 SLI, which are watercooled, or would there be some other problem with the overclock on the 590 (temperature, power requirements, etc)

Blowing up maybe?

More relevantly (as not many people have a PSU capable of GTX480 4-way SLI), 3 6950s unlocked to 6970s would be close enough as to demolish anything. Especially since XF scaling on the 69xx is excellent, but all the cards suffer crap scaling with 4 cards, so dropping the fourth isn't losing much.

Also, to be fair to gatecrasherlok, he might be Folding, where two GTX590s will be brilliant, especially since they 'only' require a 2-way SLI board, rather than a more expensive motherboard. (Though he has a Classi anyway).
