I'm buying a Galaxy S II sim free when it's released and want to insure it.

Have you guys/gals got any recommendations of where to insure it.

i know CPW provide geek insurance if bought from their store for around £12.99 per month but have seen a number of internet based insurers quoting around £6 per month but which of them are legit. Am also looking for laptop insurance too.

House insurance is not an option as i live in shared accommodation.

Would be greatful if anyone can help from their experiences, if me asking this breaks forum rules feel free to PM me.

Thanks in advance

Can you upgrade your bank account to get mobile insurance? It usually costs the same and gives you a host of other 'goodies'.

I too am considering this. My existing bank doesn't cover it and my home insurance doesn't due to shared accommodation.

The most promising i've found is from betterbuy who offer 1 year for £60 with everything covered (including loss, which many don't) and 30 days of overseas cover. This still seems incredibly pricey to me though as my entire flat is covered for around £120!

I think my bank does offer it but I know it doesn't cover accidental damage which is may main concern.

There are so many on the internet offering it for a reasonable price but you don't know how good they are until you need to claim

Apply for Lloyds TSB Silver Account online. £3 for the first 2 months and £7.95 after that. You get a bunch of benefits but the main ones are Mobile Phone insurance and AA breakdown cover. :)

Thanks for the help guys, I'm torn between BetterBuyInsurance or opening a Lloyds Silver account.

The only benefit of the Lloyds acconut for me would be the phone insurance as silly me have already paid up for AA cover so can't take advantage of that.

Am emailing Betterbuy to find out the excess as Lloyds excess is £50 and will decide then.

Thanks again.

My mobile (DHD) was stolen on the weekend and has had £250 of charges on it. So I will know just how good lloyds insurance is within the next few days.

Apply for the Insurance through your bank account.

I had a bit of bother with Phones 4 U insurance as they wanted a £50 excess charge as well, which I could have just paid to have the phone fixed instead of all of the monthly charges.

Good house insurance will cover you. We have M&S Premier (with all options), so our phones are covered worldwide, as our bicycles etc are. It saves us a lot per month this way

I ordered the SGS2 on saturday and took Phones4U's insurance at £6 a month. I made the mistake of not insuring my last phone (LG Arena) and smashed the screen after 6 months. I bought a new screen but after fitting it it never worked properly again.

I'll probably keep the insurance for a year and cancel after that, my next upgrade will be available in 15 months by which point the SG3 should be out :D

I was looking at doing the same with my new HTC Wildfire (bought it Sim free) after reading the terms and conditions of the insurance most of them will only cover you for one claim per year.

I had a look at protectmybubble who said they'd insure my Wildfire for £2.99 a month, didn't seem too bad.

Just checked with protectmybubble and they are quoting £6.99 which is the same as the P4U one I took.

Thought I would update.

The Lloyds insurance paid out partially. They agreed to pay about 2/3rds of the call costs. They refused to pay for calls after 24 hours. I had called voda in time but couldn't get through to a person as they had a bank holiday message on. Voda have agreed to credit the rest after I proved having made three calls to them from someone else's phone. I got a replacement hand set from the insurer (refurb by the look of it but fine) but had to wait almost a month for it (desire HD).

So all in all, I got there in the end, not out of pocket. I had to spend far too long arguing with the insurer and vodafone (but I wasn't going to be fobbed off). I wouldn't recommend the lloyds insurance particularly as it was hardly swift but then at least it was sorted in the end.

Ended up being £350 worth of calls.

How do you guys manage to break phones/get phones stolen often enough for mobile insurance to be worth having? My phone is always on me - I cannot imagine a situation whereby it would be possible for it to be stolen.

I've had high end contract handsets for 11 years now, if I had paid £7 a month for insurance since Day 1 - as many of you advocate - I would have paid out almost £1000 and received absolutely nothing in return.

I suspect there must be thousands of people out there paying for mobile insurance they will never use?

This is the first year I have taken insurance out.
My last phone took a beating and I didn't want my Desire to go the same way.
Once or twice I left my phone on a table somewhere, and luckily someone has been nice enough to call me and say I've left my phone.

Over the contract length (18 months) it'd have cost me £108, which I do think is enough for peace of mind when the phone itself cost £500~

But as it goes, I've taken really good care of my phone (apart from the incidents above) and haven't needed it
