Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

From the 40 warrants placed i imagine those responsible will come out far worse as a result of Sony ignoring these 'warnings' than Sony will.

I can't see it being offline for much longer. They are losing so much money right now. And will face lawsuits in the coming weeks.

It depends on what happened with the hack. If they come out and say that their systems were compromised and your credit card details were stolen do you think that will be good for them? Would you trust them to put it right?

IIRC the 40 warrants have nothing to do with this anyway?

EDIT: beaten to it whilst writing the reply ;(

Apparently Sony aren't "sure" if any credit card details have been obtained during this intrusion. Some people on a few other forums have noticed weird card activity that wasn't there previously.

Just a heads up to keep an eye on any cards connected to PSN.

Wondering what they've exploited then. It's one thing bringing down the front end of psn, sony bringing it down, finding the exploit and fixing it, but if they've managed to root one of sony's servers it's unlikely that server would be something as delicate as a database containing card information. They'd of had to use that rooted box in Sonys DMZ to gain access to another box on their internal network, which you'd assume would be tied down to minimal services, maybe an up to date mysql database with different passwords. I hope to god sony dont use the same root passwords for each server or we may indeed find pennies go missing from our accounts

Then again, it would depend who hacked it. Anonymous are unlikely to be interested in the general publics money, too much bad publicity

I think Sony aren't planning on fixing it. I read somewhere that they're completely rebuilding PSN. Absolute PR nightmare this is.

I cancelled my debit card to be on the safe side as I don't think I got the same kind of protection one has with a CC.

If they are rebuilding the network to me it infers that the 'external intrusion' couldn't be simply patched to prevent a further intrusion which makes me think that their code could have been insecure.

Going back to a post i saw earlier about how this never happens on the 360,
XBL was down for 15 days between december '07 and january '08.....so really no one has a prestine record of solid working servers, whether you pay for a subscription or not. some people need to stop acting like XBL has a perfect record of working servers.

Anyone got a source for all these claims that XBL was down?

I only remember it stuggling with the amount online, and didn't completely go down for everyone.

Finally i can log in to PSN again!!!
