Acer Aspire 5553 or 5742

Hi All,

I am stuck between choosing the Acer Aspire 5553 (quad core AMD 2ghz 3gb ram) for £429.99 and the Acer Aspire 5742 (Intel i5 2.4ghz - 4gb ram) for £499.99

Both use windows 7 64-bit.

I will be using my laptop for internet, emails, office, dvd's and iTunes.

Which one should i get?

anyone? is the AMD phenom IIquad core 2ghz that much slower than an i5 2.4gz? thanks

Both laptops are overkill for what you are going to be using it for, you should be able to pick up a good dual core for about £300 which will be just as quick for the things you want to do.

I would definitely spend an extra £70 and get the i5 laptop.

decided to get the acer 5742 with i5, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd. very happy with it

flies along nicely. if anyone has any questions about the laptop, let me know.

What is the sound like on the 5742? My mum is considering this but is put off by the single mono speaker. Any opinion please?

Its awful for music, but then again unless you buy a larger desktop replacement or specifically a multimedia laptop they're all pretty poor for music.
