Spare key that doesn't work on your car, give it too them, phone police while they fart about with the dodgey key, then barricade yourself in a more secure room, or wait behind the front door and play stabby stabby when they come back in.
Again it depends how easy it is to break in. You've just said that you basically leave the keys by the front door and would hope that they'd take what they want and go. But what if worse case scenario that's not what they're there for. There are sick people in this world and ensuring your house cannot be easily broken into would keep your mind at peace.
If a car thief couldn't break into your house for your keys then he'll most likely give up and move on to someone else's car.
anyone remember the breakin scene from home alone?
I think wires are being crossed here. i live in a small terrace house. Theres 2 doors and an alarm to get into the house. After that nothing. I am a light sleeper so if theres any noise then me and my dog will wake up (crappy crime fighting sensors that only work for a 20metre radius). I will go and look, I will make sure my GF stays put. I see that as protecting her, not sitting with her in the bedroom. I check everything is ok in the house. If there is someone then I will do something, we dont get psychopathic murderers around here like some of you seem to get... and unless you have a zonda or something then I cant see them being that determined in the first place with some of your house defenses. Our criminals are the smash and grab whatevers closest kind (2 hoovers on 2 occasions in our case) and run if an old man sees them. Different mind set living a different life I guess.
You have your blinkers on and are in a little dream world tbh. Just because you don't have a Zonda or major crimes in your area is a stupid way to look at things as criminals don't care about the area. IF they really want something then they will come and get it.
We live in a lovely area then suddenly we got hit because we have never had an alarm on the house. Then within a few months other houses without alarms got hit. Not all these criminals are retards with hammers, they will undertake surveillance, assess your grounds and security, maybe even use the web/crap securty facebook account to find out your movements.
It seems those on here with a few more years of life experience under their belts have the right idea, whilst there are those who are blissfully unaware of the dangers out there when it comes to burglary and your life.
Time to wise you big standers and bangers!
Or you are over thinking based on one set of burglaries which sound like plain old burglaries. I have been burgled, we have had others around here burgled. Thieves run, they dont want to get caught. I have a £1000 car (bought for just under £400 and some work but thats the valuation). You need to understand that not everyone lives in a castle with lots of valuables inside that will be targetted. Someone in a counsil house with a little ford parked on the street is NOT going to attract anywhere near the same kind of criminal as someone in a gated private property 5 bedrooms and an m5 on his front. I think you might have been reading the daily mail too much.
So whats your point? My point was that you take some precautions that will deter 99% of little **** bags but when and if you are unlucky enough to encounter people serious enough to get through your precautions, its best to let it go.
Not sure how people arent getting this. The only way someone will be that determined is if they know what they are after. To know what they are after means there is something in there worth the time, effort and risk. There is nothing like that in this house. Or in any of the surrounding house. Hence why my still valid point of different types of criminal. Every robbery around here that has been interupted ended with the criminal running away with whatever he can grab on the way out. Its that simple. They arent after the crown jewels, there is no expensive car. No serious criminal with a set goal will break in here. The only ones who do (none in recent years anyway) are opportunists who are simply trying their luck and I would rather scare them off then let them go about their business and come back later for a repeat thieving.

Its not hard to understand that peoples circumstances and experiences will differ greatly surely... no anybody who wants to defend their property in and way is an idiot apparently....
If someone breaks into my house they can have my car keys. My car is not worth anything when compared to family.
For those that have all these fancy cars and stuff do you not have a garage you can use to keep them safe?
