Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Didn't realise Polyphony were doing the work on the PSN:eek: You're right then, we're in for a long wait!

im just saying most projects take a lot longer than expected, GT5 was delayed for several years, it was supposed to be launched with the ps3, delays are to be expected, you just never know how long

Perhaps the US Government should have offered Bin Laden a job in airport security too.

sony are at the mercy of its engineers and programmers now, it took 10 years to make GT5. this new network could take a lot longer than expected.

Not sure what GT5 has to do with anything. In any case, they're not creating a new network, the cost and size of such a project would be massive and not something that could even be put into the planning stage - let alone actually started - within the timeframe so far. They'll be taking the opportunity to strengthen and add to what they have already, it won't be a clean start. That'd be suicide.

i thought i had read somewhere that everything was being put onto new servers, and it wasnt a simple job?

look theres plenty of companies that employ hackers, i doubt theres many who employ people on the fbi's top wanted list and been accused of killing thousands of innocent people.

hackers have a place within security jobs.

Anyone think this rebuilding will result in trophy auto-sync, faster profile browsing/comparisons, etc. Or is it just wishful thinking on my part? :p

Wishful thinking plus i doubt they be adding anything new for us they will be glad once its up and running. The PR they will of got and are currently getting they wont be happy about id imagine.

LOL are you trying to say you think Geohot is a White Hat? ROFL :D

ps3ud0

are you saying that geo hot wouldnt make a good security expert for companies like sony and apple?

i dont know anything about hacking, i just know that most decent hackers get offered jobs in security (the other side so to speak).

Some people seem to have a vary single minded approach to these matters, and no middle ground. This is the same principle that may have landed Sony in such a situation. Although it is within their right to do all those things, being a little more intelligent and tactful in some scenarios may proove very worthy in the end.

Yep, you cant trust a person that divulges your secrets publically without giving you recourse to fix it - thats where black and white hats differ and why the article you linked to only refers to white hats. Geo Hot is definitely not that...

I dont think any company would really want to have a black hat on their payroll, though Im sure there are a rare few, dependent on their skills...

ps3ud0

Tbh i dont see even why them removing OtherOS was an issue for so many since so many other devices which are cheaper than a PS3 can run Linux anyway.

It was a surprise that sony even included it. It got removed some people and hackers using it as an excuse to start was silly it was a temper tantrum if anything.

Sonny your right some hackers do land jobs cause of what they have done but if it is an external source that has attacked psn and they eventually come out and say was only directed at Sony its clearly not true as they will claim its fair its not if it effects other people i.e us.

Their whole ground of well sony did this we did that blahblah its all pathetic

i didnt know what a black or white hat was? so i can see why they may not be the preferred choice.

but this is an exceptional case, geo haot has millions of fans worldwide, he is an internet phenomenon, anybody who disagrees with that is delusional, he had/has many followers (i dont know whats been going on and sony shut some of his stuff down apparently) and people posting youtube videos about/related to him, etc.

it would have made a great PR move for sony had they hired him, instead it turned into a PR nightmare suing him.

like i said they could have done things differently and still achieved their overall goal.

Sony couldnt hire him thou as all it will do is set spark for every hacker to try the same thing hoping they get hired.

Sony might of thought they could but it may look good to us and "internet people" Overall its not worth it for them. We all know Sony have seem to bugger up their security on PS3 last year since its been opened its one thing after another showing how weak it is so if anything Sony will have learnt for the next consol if it even has a psn that is :P

the person who hacked PSN, imo doesnt deserve a job, because of what potential damage they could have and have caused.

geo hot though due to his popularity does deserve a job, it would be a great PR stunt, imo.

these other hackers would need to gain the notoriety that geo hot has, this is very hard to do, the only reason why i think geo hot deserves it is due to his popularity and he obviously possesses the skills needed. i cant believe nobody has snapped him up yet, is he still studying or something?
