Will mainly be used remotely for Outlook and office apps, but needs to be as quick as possible as it will be used by a very impatient boss.

Obviously need the 64bit windows, just noticed that as I uploaded the pic.

Any better suggestions?

I'd be very surprised if he will notice a difference between that cpu and an i3 2100 (for half of the price) when only using office apps. Especially as you can't overclock it with that motherboard (but you can use the onboard graphics of the cpu).

Do you not need an optical drive?

You want a non-k CPU with a H67 board as the only difference is the k-version has an unlocked multiplier for better overclocking, which you can't do with the H67s anyway. You probably don't need an i5 tbh but I don't really know so you're better of waiting for someone with more knowledge to come along :)

Not quite true, the K version has better onboard graphics. The K has HD3000 whereas the non-k has HD2000. Not that this is especially relevant because either will run office apps easily.

Also, will 60gb be big enough for all of his files? Or are they all stored on a network drive anyway? Or does he need a storage drive of his own?

Add in storage drive if needed.

I wouldn't give my "important" boss a PSU that might got BANG!
What features of Win7 Professional does he need - Home Premium will probably be OK for general office stuff.

Possible Photoshop usage down the line, and it will be handling and opening 6mb + image files all the time. Optical drive I can cannibalise from the current machine, and the files are all on a network server, could probably even get away with a smaller drive. Was trying to get as much horsepower for the money with the build as the £500 is there to be spent.

Bit overbudget. Included Windows 7 Home premium. 8GB of RAM will be invaluable for photoshop.

Drop to 4GB to bring back to £500, can always at the extra at a later date.

I've just built some PC's for office use and the I-2100 is perfect. Even with HDD the systems are snappy. Can't see any need for a quad which won't get used in 99% of office cases.
Also you might want to check whether the £500 is inclusive of VAT or not. as business' can claim it back. £500 + Vat = £600 to spend on a PC. very good budget for opening Word!

For business, support and reliability is very important. That's why they spend so much more money on standard Dells and HPs than custom builds.

In any case...

She would never buy a dell again after previous experiences with the company, but would consider HP. Looking at their systems though, she isn't really getting that much for the money other than the support, which as her employee I provide anyway. It's only a small company so it's not that important to go with a pre built system as it's one and not ten machines we need.

I think narrowing it down the case and psu will def change. Maybe go with an i3 with a vertex 2e instead?

a i3 will be fast enough for office productivity. The slowest part in that regard is the hard drive, so a SSD will be a snappier upgrade than a CPU change. Not much between getting a Sandforce controller, the latest tech, or the older Indilix controllers really. The margins will be small, but whichever SSD you choose will be leagues ahead of any hard drive.

Note that 120GB may well be enough in capacity for her. So instead of a 60GB + hard drive, you could just get a 120GB Vertex for £130. Hard drives cost peanuts anyway, but a higer capacity SSD will ensure she wont run out of space by doing silly things such as filling up her user folders with crap. Windows will take around 30-40GB (in my experience anyway).
