Nintendo to announce new console @ e3

I don't care how many lines of P they can fit on the screen, if their front end/dashboard is the same.... I'll probably pass. Also, friend codes.

Im not a graphical whore at all considering some of the games i play are PS1, But for example some games do suit the higher gfx and require them to work really well

When i said adult games or "proper" i dont mean gfx i want it to have more support and get games like DEAD Space 1/2,Enslaved,Bioshocks,More shooters ala Bulletstorm, Medal of Honour i dont just want to chose zelda and mario over and over.

The current Wii has some nice niche titles in their aka de blob 1, no more heroes, super smash bros, conduit etc BUT then rest of it is the usual games they do on every thing they make. So unless Nintendo are going to get better 3rd party developer support them making its GFX better and over all more powerful will be pointless as the art style it has for Zelda/Mario etc work very well for it.

As mentioned above fix its dam online system the friend code is the worst ive ever had to use its terrible!

Cant see that happening tbh, it would drive the price of controllers up too far and they would lose the "family game time fun" reputation they built up with the wii as hardly anyone would buy any extra ones.

A family is likely to have a 3DS or 2 in the long run, especially if they double up as Stream controllers too.

Does anyone else think that there's scope for three different types of console, from the same company, in today's market? The handheld, the casual, and the hardcore? I wouldn't be surprised to see this sit alongside, rather than replace, the Wii as Nintendo's competitor to the PS3 and 360.

If somebody wants to go out and spend £200-250 on a console, the new Nintendo is an option, and I would expect it to be "backwards" compatible with the Wii as well, both in terms of hardware and software - the Wii controller and games will be this console's equivalent of Move or Kinect.

If on the other hand, somebody is more casual they can go get a Wii for £100, and won't have the hardcore games or HD capabilities of the "higher end" machine, but can still play Wii Sports and have a laugh with their friends.

In short, I'd argue that the home console market has been split into two - hardcore and casual - by the latest generation of consoles. Nintendo is doing well in the casual market, but losing out in the hardcore market. The Wii will keep doing what it's doing - capturing the casual market. The new console will attempt to win back market share from hardcore gamers.

The interesting question, I guess, is this: If Nintendo's new console is on a par, in terms of processing power, or only a little beyond the PS3 and 360, what happens two years after it's launched when the PS4 and new Microsoft console come out? Do they release another console? Yet if they make it considerably more powerful than the PS3 or 360, can they afford to sell it at a competitive price? Will Sony and Microsoft respond, or can they simply rely on their current share, and lower prices, to tide them over?

It will probably just be the same as this current generation with Nintendo's new console hardware eventually falling to 3rd place in terms of the technological power. The difference is, they will have at least 1 or 2 years head start before Sony and Microsoft release their more powerful successors.

I guess Nintendo would probably still have the usual console lifespan of 5-6 years. The Wii will be 6 years old when the new console is scheduled for next year.

So it would probably be a repeating cycle until the idea of a gaming console dies out. I mean who knows!

Hopefully Nintendo will redeem them selves. God the Wii is terrible.

Even as a Nintendo Fanboy I'd have to agree, though as their are many games that are fantastic on the wii making it a worthwhile console to get I don't think the controller lasted that long in many people's eye's but I think Nintendo thought it would.

This is why I think they're going to make the Wii's existing controller (with +) fully capable with the new system.

In fact, after thinking about it, I think the controller will be touch screen only with their new gyroscope built in but have a slot a bit like the Mario kart adapter for the Wii controller to fit in.

This will decrease the production cost if it truly does have a touch screen. But who knows, All I know is I'm sure nintendo have something funky up their sleeve, might even be a vitality sensor we heard so much about... wait. :D

Yeah speaking of the Vitality Sensor, WTF was up with that? It totally went off the radar!

Don't know what use it would be should it reappear in a different form for the new console though.

golden eye, monster hunter tri work a treat online

Red Steel 2 looks great if you ask me.

Hopefully The Last Story will get a Western release soon since reviews for that have been extremely favourable and the Wii could do with more JRPGs.

And the Friend Code system may be annoying, but that doesn't mean that playing online itself is bad.

I see the same Wii bashing on this forum as the old Sega v Nintendo fan boys back in the 90's. Sega fanboys always thought they were more "adult" and a serious gamer etc and the exsact same attitude re nintendo is on ocuk forums.

At the end of the day Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft make very good games consoles with no clear winner. Not every gamer wants to play FPS all the time.

So, anyone here actually excited by the news? For a new console announcement there doesn't appear to be much hype. Come on, Nintendo in HD, with more power! Imagine what Galaxy 3 could look like. Or Metroid. It's going to be the nuts :D

The wii was bad, so I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.

Nintendo have hardly released any good first party games and third party and online support is poor.

It was by no means bad, you just had to dig a bit to find the gems. But I don't know what they were thinking with the friend codes.. that was just stupidity beyond belief.

Half the problem is we dont know a thing about it.

If the new console can play games at full HD then that would be brilliant. However it may end up being more costly compared to PS3 and XBOX 360.

I don't think it's going to be anymore expensive than what the 360 cost at launch, around £250.

Rumours and speculation are the only things at the moment. Might as well play a game of "Hey let's see what Nintendo are going to call this console!" All we know for the codename is "Project Cafe".

Pricing wise, it would have to be costly at first since it will be new.

And as for the Wii being bad. There are plenty of hidden gems or niche titles, just the lack of marketing failed most of them.
