I don't think they changed the service schedules for later cars, so yeah, 6th year :).

Nasty job. I think the bill I last saw for one ran into £8k with a few small extras

Yea its 6k absolute basic, iv paid 3 of them over the years on different cars, thats a bit hurtful i can tell you :)

Yea but i put that down to being a V8, not sure if thats the reason or not but im sure i was told that.

Sounds right....

Whilst hardly in the same league, I noticed this when looking at e38's recently (yeah, still on the hunt) the 740i's V8 is ever so slightly lumpy compared to say my 528i's I-6.

Don't know about the alloys but that looks the ideal "wafting along while reading the FT as your chauffeur barges the oiks out of the way".

Nah, bimmer V8s are silky smooth on idle compared to a T. Pushrod V8 + Hot cam = Lumpy idle. While that sort of thing is awesome in a American muscle car it doesn't really fit a Bentley.

I'm sure I'm making it seem like a bigger deal than it actually is but it is something I've always noticed.

Thought it was going to be someting properly retro.

As you're a Jag fanboy, get an E-type then get it retrimmed in the finest cow and carpet :D

You just cant drive them every day though, beautiful as they look useless mirrors, condensation, ropey brakes even fan boys have to draw a line :)

Get it rebuilt to a more modern spec, I'm sure that was on a Top Gear episode.

Then you will just need a flatcap and tweed blazer :D

Have you not found one you fancy yet?

More Dogs than Crufts alas, I'm probably being too picky given the youngest e38's are over 10 years old now, but not found one thats right yet, and am starting to wonder if I ever will.

You can do that yea, i just dont like them enough, if i was going to do that it would probably a circa 1977 XJC coupe. Pillarless coupe now that is another thing of beauty, let me find you a picture :)

You will find one but you will end up paying a few quid over the odds for it.

Proper Bentley

This.

There's no doubting the Continental is a fantastic luxury GT, but for me this is what Bentley is about.

The footballers can keep their Continentals, this is a man's Bentley ;)

(ok an old man's but I'd still do it :p)

And they seem to come with a Jamaican flag on the dash. I approve :D.

Yes a man of taste, they dont make good cars like that no more.

Why Jaguar ever had to stray too far from that design i just dont know, then i wouldnt be driving my self mad with Bentleys id still have a new Jag instead.

You know the thing now having had the GT's, if there is one solid sit down dont budge come rain snow lorry driving past you on the motorway, bomb proof safe feeling car its a GT.

Much as those Arnages are lovely, they feel big, and soft, i think i was looking at that today with the rose glasses of yesteryear.

Not so keen on the lavender one but the green Jaguar is beautiful, I think you should forget the Bentley and get one of them again.

The green one is actually quite famous in Jag circles, its got a lot of series 3 XJ bits on it, door handles, things changed inside its also got a 6 litre V12 under the bonnet if i remember rightly, so that one has been done up a bit.

The lavender one looks like its very original.
