Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

At last, some proper information. Sounds quite serious.

Yep, and this is what annoys me, personal information has been leaked, yet those whose data has been leaked (us) find out approx 1 week after the event. No matter what people say Sony are always slow with communication to users, whilst no-one cares too much when it is about game delays/releases/bugs, when it comes to personal information, I think 7 days is a ridiculous amount of time to play a game of "damage limitation".

Despite my disliking of Sony as a company (Although i still own a PS3 :( sucker i am) no one wants to see this kind of thing happen ..

Sure, it hurs Sony's reputation, but the real sufferers are innocent people, as per usual.

It would be interesting to see if Sony have left themselves open to a legal challenge over their (imo) terrible handling of this situation for the reasons you stated.

Excuse my ignorance but would Sony know right away what had been hacked, or just know that they had been hacked and then had to investigate what has been?

Either way it wouldn't have hurt with an early announcement asking people to be careful.

Well about time, I wonder if they were going to give out this info now or is it a result of increased media attention and rumours. They're going to have a few headaches over this in the coming weeks/months.

Good lord, that is very serious. I feel sorry for Sony but at the same time they should have had better security than that.

This is going to be a media storm.

If only it was that simple!

Reading comments on various places where people are saying like "oh don't **** off the hackers" makes me cringe.

Not so bothered about it coming back up fast now. Rather they just fix it properly.

Though its our personal information, theres very little an individual is going to be able to do - its gonna be in the respective Data Commissioner(s) hands before now and no doubt theyll be investigating, ultimately Sony seem to have already initiated contact with the relevant bodies to ensure fraud is minimised.

Thankfully I dont have any CC information attached to my PSN account anymore - but Im really not pleased about the personal information thats been leaked...

Just sucks to be a Sony punter :/

ps3ud0

Yep and PSN could be down for another week.

After what may have been taken i doubt thats going to be whats on peoples mind at the moment, Hell it can be down for even longer if it means this leak of information doesnt happen again.

Though imo their security must not of been great if so much information has or may have been taken :(
