So today when I got home from work, I had my renewal form through from Tesco car insurance.
Seems it had gone from £1330 to £1666 (been with them 3 years now). So I give them a call, ask about it saying i'm 25 now so surely it should go down not up by a couple of hundred.
Anyway, after some convo the guy reckons they can knock off £100 quid making it £1566.
I go on a search website (can guess which), type it all in and get a quote of £717 from Admiral, and to ADD my girlfriend on my insurance it takes off a further £47 lol.
Result! :D

Anyone else added people to their insurance to make it go down before?

Does nobody know that renewals are nearly always more expensive than if you shop around when the year is up???

I knew it'd more than likely be cheaper elsewhere, but wasnt expecting half price or so. Especially about the adding another driver is all

My renewal came through last week with Admiral and it had gone down by about £15  the reason im shocked is i made 2 claims one for my windscreen and one for an accident with a post i had.

My no claims bonus is protected but hats off to Admiral i have never been able beat my renewal but i will try and add the rents on see if they take it down more :)

Think the admiral group are taking that tactic a lot now, I couldn't beat mine at all with them this year.

Been looking around some more, and still cant beat it.
Although a friend has suggested Adrian Flux (??) and A Plan, will go have a look at those quick =]

Adding my dad and sister knocked around £900 off for me.

Admiral upped my renenwal by around £700, got it back down to what I paid last year £1600, would have been £1400 if I hadn't had a non-fault accident on my record now :(.

With Kwik Fit myself. Renewal came through at £580 when it was only £340 last year, accompanied by a letter saying this was the best quote they could get for me. Went through their online quote and got better cover for £370 (inc breakdown, legal, protected no claims etc). Rang them up and they agreed to that price, thought i was going to get the 'brand new customers only speech though!

It'll not be long before companies will refuse to give you cover if you're going through as a new customer even though you're already a customer with them, just another way to screw you over.

Well surely if they do that mucky pup then you can just take your custom elsewhere? I'd rather stay with a company that will give you incentives to remain with them rather than basically give you the finger and give new customers with really cheap deals.

Go direct to Admiral too and you can save even more money (I found comparisons sites add money in the admiral group)
Try elephant and bell too.

Not always the case though.

Strangely enough I went direct to begin with, then thought I'd just do a quick check see if there is anything at other insurers on comparison sites. Admiral came back cheapest on moneysupermarket with a quote £50 less than going direct!

Yup... adding my gf knocked the insurance on my XKR from 1600 to 1200... do not understand it... as she would be driving it AS WELL AS me, not instead of, which would increase the cars time on the road and therefore it's liability of getting in to an accident (especially with her driving!).

Ah well... not complaining... just confused by their anti-logic

Thats annoying, you should put it was your fault for a test, i bet it goes up less saying it was your fault.

Because the risk is being shared over two drivers.

You put you are doing 8000 miles a year for an example. On your own you are driving all those miles yourself, being male you are more likely to crash then your gf, even though you say her driving is poor, its stats that count.
