Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Though its our personal information, theres very little an individual is going to be able to do - its gonna be in the respective Data Commissioner(s) hands before now and no doubt theyll be investigating, ultimately Sony seem to have already initiated contact with the relevant bodies to ensure fraud is minimised.

Thankfully I dont have any CC information attached to my PSN account anymore - but Im really not pleased about the personal information thats been leaked...

Just sucks to be a Sony punter :/

ps3ud0

I disagree.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information.
This advice would have been more useful days ago. Surely people who steal your data for identity theft/fraud are going to use it as soon as possible? Sony have just given them a 7 day headstart imo.

One thing I have learnt, historically, since owning a PS3 is that Sony never make announcements/fixes/patches, whatever, during a weekend. Info is 4 days (long weekend) too late. Dunno why but they just don't seem (to appear) to work at weekends.

I can't even remember how much personal info Sony have on me.

Don't know if they have my CC on file or not, or even if its up to date.

Can't remember buying anything off the PSN store.

So ill ask and it might be a silly question but is their any point in calling my bank tomorrow and telling them that chance data/details are stolen? Cause i cant see what the bank can do other than keep an eye :(

I dont give a stuff about my credit card info, as long as my platinum's are still there.

Give my your CC info for my 11 Platinums as a trade? I dunno how to do it, but there is loads of hackers out there who probably can ;)

Depends. A lot of systems now use CVV (3 digit security code on back of card that has not been stolen) or some sort of external scheme (like verified by visa) to buy stuff. BUT loads of systems will take orders with just a card number and expiry date (which have potentially been leaked).

If your Credit/Debt card details were current I don't think there is harm in asking your bank to contact you for any non regular transactions (a lot of banks do this already). To be honest, I suspect many banks will get many calls from concerned consumers tomorrow. I stand to be corrected, but I don't know of any worldwide company that has potentially lost this many customers CC details before.

I dont know what information I gave about address details when I signed up. can't remember what it asked for.

It'll be name, address, city, country, dob, secret question/answer, email.

It's typical that I always used a pre-paid voucher up until about two weeks ago when I paid by debit card to get the Killzone 3 map pack. :(

Jesus, Sony got owned very badly here..

Im concered how the data was made available externally. I'm thinking one of the external psn servers was popped and it's internal database server contaning user info had the same root credentials.. It's unlikely their db server containing the user detail was available external, and it's unlikely that the same exploit used on the psn server would be exploitable on their database.

Bad news for Sony.. Bad news indeed

I called the bank and cancelled my debit card, may or may not have been a good move.

Bit excessive in my opinion, but having said that I have never been a victim of debit/credit card fraud, so it is easy for me to be callous about it.

Ultimately your bank will be obliged to give back the money taken fraudulently (I think Visa Debit is covered for such things, but can't recall the details. Credit cards are definitely covered (again Visa are, not sure on others))

Yeah banks refund immediatly, then basically tell their customer not to worry, change ur details, and it's never mentioned again.

Gets passed over to a fraud team and dealt with on ur behalf
