Help a brother out, literally...

Looking for some friendly advice here, my brother is shopping for a new phone, he's in the UK I'm not so don't know who/what/where has the best phones/deals
currently, so need a little bit of help!

He'd like a Android Phone, ideally the Galaxy S2 but it's too expensive for him, max budget is around 20pounds a month for 24 month contract. Low usage on minutes but a fair few texts+500meg internet is a must. Don't know if he'll get any upgrade deals, think he's on one of those month by month plans currently, T-Mobile sim free option or something is it?

How does the Samsung Ace stack up against a normal Galaxy? I see it as just a touch slower and smaller, probably avoided and just get a real GalaxyS right?

I know nothing about HTC phones, I know they are popular but know nothing of their naming system, Can someone rank them in best>worst order? I presume from threads here the DesireHD is the newest incarnation? But only comes with Android 2.2 are updates on the way from HTC? Easily done DIY?

I see it as a Galaxy Vs HTC decision currently?

I think the HD is the top end HTC phone for the moment at least. I'm running gingerbread (Revolution HD 4 beta), which is pure awesome, stable and smooth. Just waiting for them to sort out overclocking and it'll be as perfect as 3.5 was.

Sadly I can only help with the small part of your OP.
 
Yep, avoid the Ace at all costs!

The Desire HD, Desire S, Incredible S are the same phone with different screens.

The Sony Ericsson Arc has similar hardware too (better camera and screen)
 
T mobile are doing the galaxy s for £18 pcm with 300 mins unltd txt and 500 mb could be a good call as the sgs is still a damn good mobile

Thanks for all the input, I have an SGS here and I like it, luckily got a call today offering me a free upgrade to SGS2 so I'm happy, but don't get to keep the old one to pass on :(

How long would it be till the SGS2 is available for circa 20pound a month?
Worth holding on 1-2 months or would it be much longer for that?

A long time ago I bought through a certain online retailer sounds like 'bile-aphone' still reputable to buy through? +Quidco of course!
 
I don't think you'll see SGS2's on £20 pcm for at least 8 months or until samsung do a refresh for SGS3 etc. very unusual to be offered an upgrade and not be able to keep your current mobile ?
 
Thanks again for the advice, I'll see if he wants to swing out a bit more cash now to get the better phone/wait/just get the SGS1 Good options though :)

Snapdragon: I'm not with a UK carrier, so have to abide by their local rules =/
My SGS1 doesn't have any 'Samsung' branding on it though which some people here seem to hate, and it does have DMB too :)
