Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Is it genuinely a good idea to cancel any cards linked to a PSN account? Just wondering whether the risk is actually there and if it's worth the rather massive inconvenience it's going to cause.

It's true though.

It was true for Sony too before this, so it's a worthless argument.

I would also like to know this? I once had money taken from an account even with a brand new card that I hadn't used anywhere. Bare in mind we probably have our details stored on many websites that we have shopped at as well.

I find it funny Sony used the word "May" when saying "Hackers MAY have stolen CC details".... This (to me) clearly means some details have been stolen. I'm not waiting for money to be taken from me lol!

I'm taking out some cash and cancelling my card. Within a week or so I'll have a new one!

I dont think it would make a difference, If they want your information card details etc they could get it other ways not including this, I mentioned earlier one of my family members had theirs done 4 times all about year apart, they do zero online shopping only in shops so cant see it being any safer.

I can see people doing it for peace of mind however

This is true. Begs the question.... Our are details safe anywhere on the net?

Answer is probably No..... Any determined group or individual can hack and then steal details!

same here should i be worried? or just cancel it

Why wouldnt you be?

Sort Code, Security Number, Card Number, Account Number.

All these stored online with the Card Number being the most important field.

You only need those 4 pieces of data to purchase things online!

I'm not one to overreact, so I'm more interested to know whether the information taken legitimately means that fraudulent activity can actually take place, or if it's just that some information was taken, but overall isn't actually particularly useful.

The CVC code isn't stored, hence my asking.

Decided not to take the chance and cancelled my CC. 4-5 days without one is not going to be the end of the world and I'd rather play it safe these days :(

i just rang the bank up canceled my card, didnt take long few minute, i dont have to worry anymore

I have just had a call from Barclaycard about suspicious activity on my Credit Card. Well it was basically an automated women telling me my most recent transactions. Strangely, one of them was a £20.50 donation to a charity and another £5.32 donation. I did not recognise these so they have cancelled my card and ordered a new one.

From my knowledge, making a donation online requires the CVV number so I don't think it's related to the PSN attack, but I do have this CC in my PS Store account.

It's truly staggering how incompetent Sony have been. Storing all these details, unencrypted?? With that level of genius one can only image the connection string to the poxy mysql db:

$psn_user_db = mysql_connect('localhost', 'psn_su', 'H4ckM3');

Managed to find some receipts for Playstation Network transactions on my old backup emails (glad I keep backups now!) which showed me the last 4 digits of the card(s) I used, which are now cancelled. Had to call Bank and CC company and both seem to know what's going on, just had to mention "PSN" and both my cards were immediately cancelled.

Sony are a god damn joke honestly totally useless company.

About a year and half ago my account was hacked and in turn someone racked up a huge bill on a credit card that was linked to the account... approx £90-100 in purchases of random games off psn such as tekken etc... I phoned Sony, they said if I phone my credit card company and basically say whats happened and my credit card give me money back and take it off Sony then Sony would close my entire account downand bassically ban that account.

They said they would look into it. I went ahead with credit card which was RBS who were very helpful, they got me my money back and refunded it then I cancled the card. Sony didn't ever get back to me though. Just changed the password on account.

I don't have any card associated with my account at the moment, but if I did then I would cancel it asap.
