Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

Because there will be vast swathes of PS3 owners who are still completely clueless and will only be aware of things once emails arrive.

I didn't say it should be kept solely to emails but I disagree that forums and gaming websites are able to 'reach far further' than email as you originally suggested. They'll reach a limited audience (ie. gamers who read gaming sites and forums) far far faster but I don't agree that they will reach further.

World of Warcraft is a good example.

About 90% of the guild I am in didnt know there was a patch today
About 75% of them have no clue what changes the patch will bring

Despite patch notes and changes being posted on wow sites for the past 3 months! Out of the 77 million accounts that have been stolen the vast majority probably still have no clue as to why they cant logon to PSN let alone someone has stolen their details

You dont have time. The data could have been stolen on the 17th, thats a 9 day headstart for whoever stole the data before Sony decided to tell you. We are now in day 10!

it takes a long time to break some passwords.
Just hope the security question on my account is hard to guess.
Well not too hard as im changing it later.

I'm not personally, not at this point in time anyway. Perhaps that's foolish, but I see it as a bit of an overreaction myself.

Debit or credit? I'm in a situation where my debit card is my only card (stupid I know, need to get a CC for emergencies), so cancelling it would leave me with all sorts of hassle. Then again, if it's being used by hackers that would also be quite a considerable hassle as well!

go to cash machine - take out how much money you think you need for the next 7 days + an extra 15%.

then phone up bank and cancel it / ask for replacement

credit cards are easier/quicker to get your cash back on so its just debits that have problems due to the length of time it takes.

Debit but im not canceling the card, I think it being done is not needed banks are aware of situation or mine seems to be (Natwest) so ill just leave it if anything happens they have had 9 days to do it so i cant do much about it anyway

What fine is Sony likely to have for this breach of details? Bankruptcy?
LOL not bankruptcy :p - theres not one government/institution in the world that has those powers to come close to that or the balls...

Im sure audits will be done regards to what controls were broken/not there and the relevant authorities will fine them, Sony just havent done themselves any favours with their track record. Im sure the ICO will be looking into this...

ps3ud0

Nothing will happen to sony legal wise unless its proven their protection was below requirement

That is what I meant to say, thanks. IGN....

"Robert Siciliano, CEO of IDTheftSecurity.com, said that number was never safe to begin with.

"There's no security in the credit card number," Siciliano said."

I was just thinking a credit card number should at least be encrypted in a database, not in plain text.

There's a difference between protection being below requirement, and below industry standard though. Son'y protection may have been industry standard, but still below requirement. In fact, it was definitely below requirement as it got hacked...
