Truckers ...

anyone think they should have a slightly higher limiter on the trucks?

or stop companies going below the 56mph iirc tesco are 52/54mph restricted to save fuel

In some cases, yes. The current limits hark from a time when trucks had drum brakes, no abs etc etc

That said, given that @44t an artic can easily run away from you if you let it (downhill stretch of the M5 near Clevedon springs to mind) then actually, 55MPH is quite fast enough.

You have to experience full braking with no speed loss to appreciate what I mean!

I nearly collected the back of a wagon on Friday. Was pounding up the M6 in lane 2 and the truck in lane 1 was indicating to overtake the one ahead of it. I indicated right while checking my mirror and see a green Mondy approaching at a vast rate so make no move. But now the truck pulls in front of me. "AAAAAHH NOOOOOO!!" Brakes, squealing tyres, fishtailing car...

I'd guess from that the trucker second guessed you by seeing your indicator, but you were too close hence the squeal of your tyres, fishtailing & no doubt, soiled pants!

Expect the un-expected - even when its fairly to be expected !

never a truer phrase has been uttered

but in fairness truckers are some of the best drivers on our roads in terms of ability and training.

unlike the plebs who spend their entire commute weaving between lanes with a phone glued to their ear. had a near miss with some muppet on a phone last week jumping from lane 2 to lane 5 with no indicators. if your heading east along the M8 check out my tasty 11 under the junction 13 gantry in the outside lane ;) yes i was tramping on a bit but you really dont expect someone to jump 3 lanes with no indication

Well i've spent countless days in hgv's, and the way the general car driving population treat them is stupid. People pulling in with a few feet of space, braking hard, sitting at 50mph in the inside lane, when you try to overtake they speed up. General bad driving habits.

Snail racing, get used to it, you get one truck grossing 43t and another 38t and hit a incline the heavier truck will slow down, other pulls out, and by time they get level the road levels out and they sit neck and neck.

When i'm driving, I always allow room for trucks, they can be good drivers and bad drivers. My driving instructor taught me to leave them room. I think everyone should have to drive a hgv for a day just to realise how BIG the blind spot is, Scania R480 I could loose half the trailer length in the blind spot, thats 2 cars!

It's generally the car drivers that annoy me when driving my car, they don't have a clue about what lane to be in, will pull out well before they need to, not pay attention to whats around them.

If the driving test had more motorway driving, I feel that there would be a better experience for people on the motorways. I drove to crotia a few years ago, and the standard of peoples driving on the motorways abroad was miles higher. You could spot english drivers miles off with the erratic behaviour.

Is rypt really arguing he's not responsible for anticipating other road users? Seriously?

Seems that way.:(

I'll try that tomorrow in my Scania & see how far i go before I kill somebody shall I?

Dear God. :rolleyes::p:D

You were both at fault. You for not using MSM, and him trusting that you were using MSM.

2 drops in Manchester, reload @ Skelmersdale & then down to the M25 area, your safe mate.... :D

today anyway :)

i want prior warning when your planning on crossing the border now lol.

still at least lorry drivers have some sort of clue, taxi drivers on the other hand............

The only time a truck has ever annoyed me is when the DPD truck broke down in the staff car park totally blocking the exit, lol facepalm moment.

Car drivers annoy me far more than Truck drivers.

Travelling at 56mph behind a Truck instead of 70mph is hardly an inconvenience or annoyance. Far from it.

I have the common sense to see that if Truck 1 is closing on Truck 2 in front of me. I'll lift, not floor it and try to get past. Then end up in his blind spot and get run into the barriers.

Truck drivers have to put up with far more idiotic road users than any Car driver, Because, quite simply, they put up with Car drivers.

Yes, Some are a total waste of space and do cause unnecessary problems on the road. I don't remember encountering any though. Probably because I gave him plenty of space and time to do whatever he wanted. He's bigger than me after all.
