I'm trying to find a tool for the unscrewing of motherboard risers. Have a trawl of the local DIY stores to no avail. A look on the web did not reveal much either.

Tried OC as well but there does not seem to be a section for tools.

If anyone has any pointers as to where the got theirs I'd be appreciated.

Does this tool have a specific name anyway?
 
99% of them do screw out for the odd one that is stuck tight there is a tool for it. Looks like a standard screwdriver with with a hex end on it to match the risers.

Have used one in the past but need a new one. Pliers can sometimes work but for a really tight one the pliers can slip if too much pressure is used.
 
I've never come across one that can't be undone with the right pliers, just my two cents. There probably is a tool for it, never come across it myself though, even after many years of working in PC repair.

I use a screwdriver with a socket using an adapter, better than pliers. You should be able to get them from a DIY store/screwfix/toolstation etc.

I've never come across one that is so tight it cannot be removed by a simple pair of pliers :confused:

However there is a tool called a nut runner/spinner/driver that is specifically designed to do the job, you'll need it in M3 size.
 
Go & buy yourself a set of nut spinners, they cover sizes from 3mm to 5.5mm.

You can also get BA nut spinner sets as well, very useful to have, cost about a fiver, better sets do cost abit more.

My favourite ones are from Schumacher, a UK firm, I have a whole set of them.

Cheers for that - did see one but as I have everything else I don't want to have to buy a full kit.

Yeah, it was for reference. Have you tried the likes of screwfix etc. I'm sure they will have what you need.

You can buy 'Bit Sets'. They are really handy and have many uses. I use the Torx bits with the Multi-Bit Screwdriver on my printer and also come in handy on the car. Well worth getting.

Have managed to find some on-line - will go back to the local DIY's tomorrow armed with the proper name of the tool.

M3 = 3mm is that right ?

Yeah, you're looking for a nut driver, size should be 3/16 IIRC. I have a couple that came as part of a set I got free years ago, search Google for 18-Piece Computer Tool Kit :)
 
I bought a boxed set from Mac-Tools containing all types of bits/drives etc for £10
