hi i recently bought myself a custom build desktop pc, i left out the graphics as i didnt have the money at the time and didnt know what to buy. i have a intel i3 3.07 cpu and my mobo is a gigabyte 1156 ud2h i think, i was wondering what graphics card could i buy to play new games and games like battlefield 3 although it is not out yet i am looking at 150 max or maybe less if i can

thank you ;)

the second one is a pre order, are ati cards good and supported more? ive only ever used nvidia cards I wouldn't know what is diferent to be honest

I might go with that then buddy. Can you tell me what the diference is with ATI vs Nvidia? Would it be good for maxing my games?

I'm surprised that nobody asked this yet!

PSU?

What PSU you got? I would be surprised if your i3 540 with intergrated graphic PC has something like a generic 300-450W PSU.

Confirm your PSU first, and then consider graphic card after.

Intel Core i3 540 3.06Ghz (Clarkdale) Socket 1156
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H intel h55 (Socket 1156)
Corsair Builder Series CX500w ATX Power Supply
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2X2GB)
Arctic Cooling freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler

thats my build but I know id have a better change maxing settings with lower resolution id love to be able to with 1080 or 720p just something good for single player game. im sorry if my post is misleading

go for the 5850, it is a cracking card for the price. As to Nvidia vs ATI/AMD, some games run better under Nvidia, some run better under ATI. As far as quality of performance goes, there is no real difference between the two brands, so just go for the best card you can get for the price, which in this case in the 5850. What games do you play?

well im kinda old and new to the pc format, I mainly used to use my ps3 for gaming but in the past before having that I started with counterstrike > counterstrike source , team fortress 2 (pc would lag at times old setup) I bought left for dead 2 when steam had a sale it ran ok but not woooow I also got portal with my ps3 copy . I will also be buying cod4 but want to play lastest games, will it handle max?

None of those games you mentioned are actually demanding at all...the 5850 will walk all over them...but for the latest game, it would still cope well at 1080p, except for may be a few extremely demanding titles. But do bare in mind that Source games love the extra speed on the CPU, so for higher frame rate, you should overclock your i3 540.

I have no idea where to start on it ive been wanting to update my bios as i thought that would be a start, sorry to be a pain but have I made a mistake in my build i'm curious if id be able to play latest games I know the latest games ask for i7's but I wouldn't mind if I could play them at maybe even high not max. I know my chip can hit 4ghz I just dont know how to go by that am I futureproof for a good few years?
