thinking about setting up a system

I'm wondering what screens, OS & frontend you guys recommend?

I think I could squeeze a double din sized touch screen inside my centre console but I'm not sure untill I get the car

I tried it and hated it - touch screen is impossible when you're driving and not hugely useful when you're not.

I'd stick to a half decent stereo with A2DP streaming and just use your phone for all that stuff, at least you can easily keep real buttons, remotes etc.

I had one. Advantages were good GPS, music capabilities. Disadvantages were touch screen reflectivity, cost, and software (frontend) complexity/changes I wanted.

My car has Blue&Me which is based around "Windows Automotive". Even has the windows logo on the steering wheel button!

Someone on here has one, and got massive stick for it and I never knew why. Easyrider maybe?

It was half an old laptop dumped in the boot connected to a tacky flip out screen which blocked the main airvents in an e46, the ones that basically do most of the work.

I built one in 2001 as a part of a project for uni, at the time 30Gb of music in a car was almost unheard of.

These days I just use an iPod, so much easier! ;)

the thought did cross my mind, about an android tab mate, is it possible to use usb devices with them such as storage?

would be cool to hook up a reversing camera and a digi tv tuner but i guess that would be asking too much lol.

cheers mejinks i will check out mp3car.com :)

acer revo base unit in the boot, android tab RDP'ing to the revo.....gonna be the best screen you'll get in terms of viewing angles and touch sensitivity, and the added bonus of rdp for the TV and reversing camera :p

You can use USB storage with some of the tabs, but obviously it's easy to take it out anyway or just sync it over wifi from your driveway :)

Whats RDP mate? I'm slightly behind the times atm :)

my brain just started working... remote desk top?

are there android apps for this bud? If so how do they interface with the PC?
