I have received a fake email that is a carbon copy of the one sent out to US PSN users but sent to one of my .uk addresses and not the one my PSN account is registered to...

havnt had one yet either but have cancelled my card, didnt take 5 minutes, i just mentioned playstation network after giving them my security answers and they said ok will send you a new card out will be with you within 10 days

I received a email from them yesterday.

I'm going to forward a copy of it to one of the solicitors at work. Find out whether or not our Data Protection Law has anything to say about all of this!

Shall let you all know what they say.

Dair!

I've had one from Sony, just asking to confirm my username and password for setting up my account on the new PSN.

Just a quick reply with the details and all is good.

The initial email said they wouldnt send any further emails. Nor would they request any further information!

You're either trolling/chatting rubbish or you've been had lol!

Sony are being sued for it
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/04/28/sony_psn_sued/

Inclined to say he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
The lawsuit seeks reimbursement for any losses that may result from the theft of credit card data, refunds for services, and punitive damages.
  • Losses from data theft - Have there been any?
  • Refunds for services - PSN is free, they've already said they will sort out refunding PSN+ customers once this is over.
  • Punitive damage - srsly?

edit: nice tumblr picture of coolguy.

For a few text fields? Would have been less than 100GB probably.

I was really bored and did some quick maths, all 77 million users of data could have fitted into 8GB give or take... (I could be hugely wrong) a fast connection would have got that in an hour or so. This is how bored I currently am :P

Interesting point of view :-

I think this is a good thing.

It'll teach grown men that playing computer games for hours each day when they could be a) working b)having sex c)drinking, all of which are productive, is pathetic.

I hope any of you involved lose thousands of £'s. You'll never learn. . . .

Edit: Point b. Trying to have sex then. . . . you might not have much luck which is why you spend so much time shooting other geeks, etc, online.

says the guy taking the time to post that when he could be...

Q: Was my personal data encrypted?
A: All of the data was protected, and access was restricted both physically and through the perimeter and security of the network. The entire credit card table was encrypted and we have no evidence that credit card data was taken. The personal data table, which is a separate data set, was not encrypted, but was, of course, behind a very sophisticated security system that was breached in a malicious attack.

Just so we're perfectly clear on this.
I've seen people say their cards have been compromised but with 77m users odds are there will be some who's cards have been otherwise compromised and it's just a coincidence or indeed it could be deliberate misinformation, it's very much the sort of thing Anon would do if they wanted to stir up some trouble (although they are not responsible for the breach)
As always, better to be safe than sorry, so if you can live ten working days without whatever card you use for PSN, it's fairly easy to ask for a new one.

^^^ i'm still fuzzy on the whole good bad thing.

all our personal info is stolen though - so uhh identity theft? setting up other accounts, applying for loans, i dunno?

When you sign up for a PSN account are you required to give date of birth?

on the other hand change your c/card details and a couple of passwords and its all good?
