Royal Mail in Scotland. Union flag is bigoted.

The Scottish should be flying the English flag really.

Why? Or are you just trolling in a thread you know nothing about?

Interested in hearing how do you see the club being able to deal with a situation like you just stated?

I'm not sure if they even can. I think the troubles are so engrained in society now that it is no longer a case that we need a shift in a generation but it will take multiple generations to really change anything and even then I really doubt it will happen. The divisions you see in society, housing, schooling, etc are obvious and it'll take a lot more than the will of 2 football clubs to change that.

They could start by banning for life any supporter carrying or displaying any sectarian material, the amount of sectarian scarves/flags etc available for purchase before any Rangers or Celtic game is immense.

They wont, because they thrive off of the bigots that support them.

I tink you are right. Personally I think one of the best things that could be done would be to stop separating children at the age of 5 for schooling because of their religion. A small step but surely a crucual one as it creates an obvious divide from such a young age. This of course would still do little if the household that they are in are still bitter and twisted but it would be a start.

Perhaps because Rangers are proud of their Britishness??

You're either being very naive or trolling for a response, but I think we both know it's not as simple as you make out.

Everyone expects rival teams to have a dislike for each other, and like many derby games around the world, the Old Firm games always create a great match day atmosphere.

But it is the morons who constantly drag up the religious history and thrive on the bigoted hatred between many of the 'so-called' fans, that make the Old Firm an embarrassment to Scotland.

I hope you're not a fan of either side of the Old Firm, as if you are, then you appear to be denying that there is a huge problem up here. And for me, that denial is almost as embarrassing as the morons who thrive on all the hatred.

So is it banned from all RM offices in Scotland or is it just banned at their Glasgow offices?
Need to hear more, to make full judgement.

Still... Given the failed abortions that make up most of the Old Firm fans, taking the flag down to stop them from getting wound up is probably a small price to pay.

Exactly.

LOL, Rangers fans proud of their Britishness, have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in your life.

Unfortunately in Scotland the union flag is a symbol of bigotry as is the Irish flag thanks to the morons who have destroyed them for their own sectarian gain.

I was at the old firm game on Sunday, every Rangers seat had a union flag attached to each seat for their supporters to wave (i guess the royal wedding gave them a good excuse), and the Celtic end was full of irish flags being waved. Neither of these flags have anything to do with Scottish football and should be banned at grounds.

Its understandable that the flag is banned in places like sorting offices as it would cause problems up here, thats a sad fact, but also an indication of the kind of morons that follow the old firm that blight not only Scottish football, but Scotland in general.

Well said.

Could you be more precise as to what sectarian material you mean? If you mean things like FTP FTQ IRA UVF and the like then I whole heartedly agree with you.

As stated earlier I am a Rangers fan I do not deny that there is a problem up here. I do however state that it is not the only problem up here. Having listened to Hearts/Hibs derby I hear many of the same songs of hate that you can hear at old firm games I am stating that the problem is not Rangers and Celtics problem alone and that there are other problems in football as a whole like the racism shown quite clearly last night in the Barca/Madrid game.

As far as I can see, unfortunately, only one party are suggesting something like that - The Scottish Unionist Party, and they are hardly a major political force of any kind:
"A totally integrated education system. Bringing an end to the costly, divisive and discriminatory religious apartheid which segregates our children at 5 years of age. Millions could be save [sic] each year to pay for the refurbishment of schools and end student fees. Education them together, you know it makes sense!

Hearts have a sectarian problem (which is why they are known as the diet huns), Ive never seen anything at St Mirren games from Hibs fans who dont have, despite their irish roots.

As stated earlier...

Apologies, I missed that reply while I was writing.

I agree with that. Being a Rangers fan myself I think there is still a problem with some of the support the same as at any football club in the world.

Did you hear the Monkey chants from last nights barca/real game or see the bottles being thrown?

Do you hear the songs being sung by some scottish clubs support mocking the dead from the Ibrox disaster?

Chants of a vile nature are present in most if not all football its just up here the sectarian card is being played the most these days in the media.

I think difference is that most of these problems occur at the game. They are issues which should be sorted within football, through sanctions against the teams involved.

The problem we have in Scotland is that the Old Firm hatred is carried by several mindless morons into every aspect of their life. Most of the Old Firm trouble occurs a long way outside of the ground, in the pubs and streets all across central Scotland. They take it to their work, they take it everywhere.

This is why companies like the Royal Mail feel the need to get involved.

Hibs fans seem to have plenty when they play Rangers/Hearts. Also Dundee Utd seem to have plenty when Rangers come to town. as I said sectarianism is rife the fact you say hearts are known as diet huns just goes to show how much of a problem there is seeing as the term "hun" has been deemed a sectarian slur by Nil by mouth.

All football runs off bigotry :( Best 2 examples are Fever Pitch where at the end he describes the problem of trying to get hooliganism out the game when the clubs need these fans when they fall down the leagues.

Just as bad is having to listen to some fans at my club (southampton) on the weekend who thought it was a good idea to sing racist songs :( all these small minorities go week in week out and end up keeping the clubs going for their own stupidity.

Just wait for the old firm to die out (or get merged with the NPC down here) for their football "dominance" to go away and the die hard should notice they are idiots.

For anyone who doesnt get the flag thing, try living in NI for a few years, the flag gets used as territory markers, designed to basically state your either with us or the enemy (too many stupid paintings on the side of building of masked terrorists with ironic statements of prepared for peace ready for war). If the prospect of sectarianism is there, flags should be banned to shut everyone up about it

Behave - Gilly

More politically correct nonsense.

displaying the British flag in Britain is not bigotted. Someone at Royal Mail needs to sort their head out.

living in n.ireland, if i see i union jack flag hanging off someones house it makes a pretty bold statement about them. same if someone hangs the tricolour

I will answer again then. They were my local team from my youth. I got involved in supporting then as a football team. No more no less. I think you got told to behave for the later part of your post which couldnt have been further from the truth.

Its all allot of bs if you ask me, half of the rangers and Celtic fans don't even come from Glasgow, allot of them have prob never even been to Ireland + N Ireland and they're parent and grandparents have prob no connection to the two countries either.
They just see it as something to justify they're pathetic life's, bunch of bigot *a*%%*r**!
There is a big Orange walk through my hometown tomorrow, makes me sick they still do this crap at this day in age.I can perhaps see why it happens in Ireland / N Ireland still, but i don't understand why these idiots here in Scotland are doing this stuff.
Taking union flags down is being way too pc though, If the Celtic fans don't like it they can **** off somewhere else, bloody scum bags.
