Girlfriend set her cooker on fire - Spec me a new one?

Right, well not a good time to do it as she's just been off longterm sick so stopped getting paid, but alas she set the kitchen on fire yesterday (her place not mine, thankfully) and she needs a new cooker.

Ideally she'd like a ceramic topped one but they all seem so expensive? She's only got about 200quid to play with (she's moving with me soon anyway) but if she can get a ceramic one then she can bring that along to get rid of my awful elec tops.


Anyone good at eyeing a cooker deal?

She's a good cook to be fair, but she'd just got in from a shift and left the grille on. Woof. Up in flames. I'll get a pic of the damage off her.

I'd love gas but she doesn't have the supply and nor do I. It would be easier for me to get it (better house etc. and shes in a flat) but pointless as she's the one with no cooker at the moment.


I hate electric hobs, ovens, yes I like. Hobs? No! But that's what I must have! or her, either way!

However with a limited budget you can get a gas hob for about £100.

Limited knowledge of induction, I thought it was similar to ceramic, why is it better than gas?

No, apart from looking like a ceramic, they operate completely differently. Induction uses a magnetic field, and due to the way it is designed, can boil a pot of water in a fraction of the time it takes gas. Also you get instant heat control and it is more efficient than gas.

at least i've never head of that happening with an induction cooker.

She's gonna need more than £200. I bought myself a cooker with gas hobs and electric inside and that was £350. That was 5 years ago and it was still at the cheap end.
