Have had this card since Saturday and I only just noticed this now on the 480 bios screen before the main bios when booting it actually says.

Engineering Sample not for distribution

Should I be worried and should anyone be worried that OCUK are selling engineering samples?

two BIOSes aimed at the serious overclocker. One profile dubbed LN2, a reference to the use of liquid nitrogen in 'record' overclocking attempts, allows core voltages of up to 1.6V.

To switch between BIOSes, Gigabyte has placed a button on the bottom right corner of the board. It's not the most accessible location, but it's a whole lot better than having to flash the BIOS every time.

Apparently the firm will stipulate that the LN2 BIOS 9 (red)can only be used when liquid nitrogen cooling is being used, though quite how the firm will be able to tell when punters send in their fried cards is anyone's guess. Maybe scorch marks and melted fibreglass will give the game away.

The second BIOS (blue) is a fully unlocked mode, giving overclockers free rein over all settings.

hmm well i switched from the red which is what it was on (seems weird that they would assume people would use LN2 as default) maybe thats why the message came up to say it was a sample to basically say use this bios at your own risk.

Since I switched to the blue I don't get that small bios reading on bootup.

its because (I think) if oyu look carefully the Bios for LN is some modified (or not) "engineering" bios

and its there where you are seeing engineering ...
