Hey guys,

The long and short of this one is that I need to build a rig to run server 2008 and about 4 other virtual servers using hyper-v.

Originally I was going to build a new rig to handle this. then i got greedy :)

I have a gaming system with:
i7-950
6GB Patriot 1600Mhz RAM
X58 Sabertooth
GTX580
HAF922

Because i know i'm going to need a fair bit of RAM to run these servers I though about doing this:

Taking out the CPU, MOBO AND RAM out of the current case and replacing it with:
Newsystem1.jpg

This would cheekily up my gaming power a little bit if nothing and then putting the i7-950, RAM and Mobo in this:
Newsystem2.jpg

(Pretend that the BeQuiet PSU is actually the Antec Truepower 750W as i think i'll put that in my gaming system and donate its current Sapphire 625W to the server)

Can anyone see any issues or suggest anything that might run the server better?

The new CPU will be used in my gaming rig so would I benefit from the i7-2600? I've read that the 2500K is perfect for gaming.

Just to clarify the eventual setups would be:

Gaming
i5-2500K
Gigabyte UD4
4GB G-Skill RAM
GTX580
HAF 922
Antec Truepower 750W

Server
i7-950
12GB RAM
X58 Sabertooth
ATi HD 5450
Antec 300
Sapphire 625W

Am hoping it should be enough

Ah, thought the 2500K was going to go in the server .

. . . and more time actually reading the thread you may not fail.

Oh the irony! I'm close to tears :p;)

OP, Antec 100 is slightly cheaper, and imo a better case :) Such an expensive cooler isn't really needed with SB because it's 32nm and hence runs very cooler.

The much cheaper Gelid Tranquillo or Corsair A50 will perform admirably at more than half the price.

Yeah sorry bout that. its going into the X58 motherboard which doesn't have onboard graphics. so went for a cheap quiet card. recon i should change it?

Always a potential issue.

Change the ram for some Corsair XMS3

edit, the cooler seems very narrow even with a fan attached too it.

That's the idea of that design :o

Agree with board change, however.

Yes, I initially thought X58 had onboard, realised otherwise, hence the edit.

Corsair A50 and the MSI board.

cheers guys, that board looks pretty nice actually.

Will let you know how I get on.

Edit: and the Antec 100 case. :)

So guys,

got my stuff in. Just wanted one last opinion.

Im sat here with my 2 rigs and 2 cases.

My friend bought a Coolermaster CM-690 II Lite Dominator Case and then decided he wanted a HAF X, without ever opening it.
I got it for £20 :)

I now have a choice between a HAF 922 and the CM-690 II Lite to put my new rig in.

i5-2500K
Asus P8Z68-VPRO
4Gb Corsair 1600Mhz RAM
POV GTX580
XFX 750W PSU

which is the best case to use? (also, what in the world is difference between between the lite and the advance?)
