...just looking at 2nd hand cars. I must say all the cars I have bought so far have been unadulterated and brand spanking new. But the sort of car I might be in the market for (such as a RS4), they no longer produce, so second hand it may well have to be.

Just wanted to know about the opinions of people regarding the listing of cars with '1 lady owner.' I am sure this is stated to try and make it seem like the car has not been cained and well looked after. But most lady owners I know have no idea how to 'care' for a car. They never check the oil, tyre pressure and have no idea about oil temps etc.

So is it worth staying away from '1 lady owner' cars and look for a car looked after by someone who knows what they are doing? Surely a well looked after hard driven car is better than one that has been neglected??

Opinions from veteran 2nd hand car buyers would be much appreciated :)

Well all the ladies i know who own a car haven't got a CLUE about anything to do with cars. They let the oil go right down, they don't bother getting them serviced, they don't change the tyres until they're basically down to the cords, they never wash them, they seem to bump into anything and everything.

That said, the ladies i'm referring to don't have RS4's. A lady owning an RS4 may will be a different breed and might actually know how to look after their car. But yeah, as a rule of thumb, if i see "one lady owner" on a bog standard, everyday car - i have reasonable suspicion to believe it has not been looked after at all.

Nah dont make 2p worth of difference, 1 owner is 1 owner, that is a good sign, dosent matter what sex they are :)

Its either in good nick or its not.

I'd prefer a car owned by an enthusiast that was meticulous in looking after the car but gave it some beans.

Lady owners to me typically mean poor clutch control, parking dings/scrapes and little care as you say for maintenance. I realise there are exceptions though.

Not sure there are many 1 lady owner RS4s out there though and if there are they're likely to be that exception. :p

1careful lady owner =

revvs like mad trying to reverse
loads of stalling
heavy and inconsistent braking
lots of bumps scraps
poor service history (or dealer history)
lots of kerbing so alloys/tracking/tyres etc not in great condition

The thing is the whole "1 lady owner" is just another rubbish bit added into adverts like "company maintained" and many others, its all **** :)

Iv done it hundreds of times, and when they ask why is it in a mans name i tell them thats the husband, its all rubbish :)

But you pick your audience dont you, for example i wouldnt say that selling a big Audi, but a Mini now, thats just crying out for having had 1 careful elderly owner :)

to be honest with you, how many fellas out there do you know out there that make really fantastic carers for cars? i think i might be one of the only people who doesnt leave our office car park at night with their right foot welded to the floor

i think theres different levels, some people pride themselves on a clean car, some pride themselves on making sure the engine is a peak performance.
some like to spend hours just making sure everything is perfect and there is some who just like to drive it and not worry about it.

my 230k mile golf went to a CGTI national 16v rolling road day at the weekend. it was within a couple bhp of the top tuned 16v (single throttle) despite its mileage, so i suppose all those silly things do eventually add up (ie babying it from cold etc)

Not to mention possibilities of any rings they wear scratching the door near the handle. Had that with my old Civic.

thats pretty impressive! the golf that is.

it was a comparison of old school tuned ones vs new stand alone management cars. there were reference standard cars there, mine was included because of the mileage and it being "home brew", the top single throttle 16v was on megasquirt too :D needless to say i was chuffed, i was 2.5bhp off from taking the trophey

I tend to avoid them if anything, I was going to the sandwich shop the other day at lunch and a girl in a great looking ED30 GTI slammed it up a kerb of which something caught underneath making a nasty noise and she didnt seem bothered at all. I bet it was her boy friends.

Confirmed my suspicions tbh.

I guess I should go check out how much knowledge she has in looking after a performance car!
