Girlfriend set her cooker on fire - Spec me a new one?

Get an induction hob: they are very good and if she's going to bring it to your place, maybe give her some help to buy it.

Yeah, but an induction hob will cost a minimum of £600 for a decent one, and he's said his budget is £200, and it sounds like that has to cover an oven and hobs.

OK, what cookers sub £200 can you get in general? Only the useless elec round ringers?

I have a picture but I am disappoint. "Looks worse on the inside (that's what she said *snigger*) as that's where it burnt most"

Well, yes but that's where the heat normally comes from. Women.

Pans need to be magnetic ... take a magnet to any you have and if it sticks, they're ok. Aluminium is a no no though.

Rubbish! can be had for less than £300

Yep, a rubbish induction hob can be had for less than £300.

In any case, £300 is still outside his budget, and it sounds like he needs an oven/hob combo, so a cheap induction hob is no good on many fronts.

No, apart from looking like a ceramic, they operate completely differently. Induction uses a magnetic field, and due to the way it is designed, can boil a pot of water in a fraction of the time it takes gas. Also you get instant heat control and it is more efficient than gas.

Ah thanks for that. :)
