Is PSN under attack? - PSN now back up 15/05

anon said he isn't doing to steal money.. dunno if thats true or not... and geohot doesn't seem like he would do this to steal credit card info. Not sure if geohot is even apart take down.. but he is the source of it all.

If you think about it, if they wanted money, wouldn't it be better for them to hack microsoft? Since more people add their cc details to that than psn.

You have zero grasp of the situation.
Anon is not a "he" and it's not even clear that this is linked to Geohot in any way.
If you were to read back as far as the previous page you might have some idea of what you are talking about.

I'm still reading up on it. I know anon is not one person... I just typed it that way without proof reading it.

So are all these anon videos about all user data being safe and that they are only after Sony for disabling features (such as Linux) and jail breaking false?

They said some parts of PSN will come back online next week, first will be a firmware update which will ask you to change your psn password.

they said other parts would be available once they are happy it is secure some im guessing the PS Store will be down for longer, poss even other small features such as sending messages adding friend requests etc

It's better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you smart enough to consider things than open your mouth and look like a ****

what crawled up your ass and died?

As long as I can start playing MK next week, I'll be happy. I have phoned my bank and they're sending me out a new card next week. I just had to say what happened to psn and they understood the situtation. No worries here.

The quote actually goes "it's better to keep quiet and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

From geohotz.

"And to anyone who thinks I was involved in any way with this, I'm not crazy, and would prefer to not have the FBI knocking on my door,"

"Running homebrew and exploring security on your devices is cool, hacking into someone elses server and stealing databases of user info is not cool."

"even if it is aimed at douches like Sony".

"The fault lies with the executives who declared a war on hackers, laughed at the idea of people penetrating the fortress that once was Sony, whined incessantly about piracy, and kept hiring more lawyers when they really needed to hire good security experts,"

"Alienating the hacker community is not a good idea."

"Sony's arrogance and misunderstanding of ownership"

"To the perpetrator, two things. You are clearly talented and will have plenty of money (or a jail sentence and bankruptcy) coming to you in the future. Don't be a dick and sell people's information. And I'd love to see a write up on how it all went down...lord knows we'll never get that from Sony, noobs probably had the password set to '4' or something. I mean, at least it was randomly generated."
the article also ends with " Earlier this month, Hotz said he'd never buy a Sony product again and that he supported the Anonymous-sponsored boycott, turned out to be a bust. "

Jesus Christ, this is pathetic. Honestly i've been using Sony products for as long as I can remember but the lack of information about this has made me lose pretty much all confidence. Starting to think about buying an XBox 360 but then I remembered how bad that was too, I think the only decent game (exclusive) at the time was Gears Of War and that eventually came to the PC.

Might just say '**** it' and get a SNES.
