That's a hornet. We've had a few nests in our house. They scare the crap out of you when they buzz past...

Biggest Queen wasp recorded is nearly 3cm's

Ours is nearly 2 inches

Deep Freeze it.. tie cotton around its thorax when it is mostly frozen.. pin the other end to the ceiling.. and let it thaw.. instant fun...

Put it in a centrifuge - always an eye opening experience. The wasp won't survive, but the exoskeleton remains intact, even upto 13,000g!
