Bullying at school

Back when i was at High school late 80's to early 90's it was scruffy kids that always got bullied, ie if they had a pair of Gola trainers or something.

How ironic - so when you were at school, you find it was acceptable for kids to be bullied because their parents could not afford the best brand of trainers?

Just found out my Neice has been bullied at school, basically because of the mobile phone she has, my sister is a single parent living on her own so can't really afford to buy her all the top tech stuff

But now your neice is being bullied for the same reason (replace trainers with phone), it's all wrong?

Loads of reasons why not, including those quoted above: care to give a valid reason why a child should take one to school?

Emergencies - that alone gives a reason.

Argue the case as much as you want, I would rather my child/others have a phone just for that purpose.

il happily argue that case bc what your saying is frankly stupid.
do you somehow live in a bubble world where seemingly schools linked up to high speed internet thats faster then in your house, and a phone system that rigs the whole campus up CANT somehow contact parents if there was an emergancy.

kids with phones is nothing but trouble in that environment, its a distraction, serves zero purpose and can actually lead to fights not only amongst students but also over allegations when a kid flips out and decides to call home and starts making stupid claims that then need to be looked into.

Does that count when they're walking to and from school?

Wow, get your head up from those clouds.

I think it is fine for them to have mobiles before and after school but at no point during the school day so this is where the problem is for me unless there is some way of securing the phone during the day.

But as pointed out even if they did not have phones kids will just bully for other reasons like brand of shoes etc. Can you just not let the school know so the bullies are dealt with inline with the school's anti-bulling policy?

Not when it's easier to just to use a mobile! ;)

What?
Usually an office is a minute or two away from a class room, as well as some schools having an on site nurse, I don't see why there is a necessity for that.

Is walking to school really that dangerous? Most children would start independently in secondary school and live ~ 2 miles away. I don't see any major dangers involved, if your child got run down in a public area I really doubt people would just walk past him/her.

The negatives of mobile phones at schools far outweigh the positives, if there was a ban on mobile phones that was zero tolerance then I can imagine the class rooms would be filled with less students texting and more students listening. For one this would increases marks and I have yet to mention the other problems of mobile phones in an education environment ( Bullying etc.. )

Bulk her out with steroids?

Get her a knife?

Failing that just tell her not to bring her phone in, when I was in secondy school I never took it in, even in 6th form (that was only 4 years ago). Just seems a waste and asking for it to get lost/stolen or confiscated by teachers
