Unless you need a copy of windows, monitor and peripherals with your budget?

For that money, you can get SB - much much faster :)

You don't -need- a sound card unless you're a true audiophile and/or have a very expensive top end headset/speakers.

Pushing just over your budget will get this:

HD6950 can be flashed to a HD6970; i5 2500k with cooler so can be overclocked to around 4.8Ghz should you want to :p; 1TB HDD (also fastest mech drive around :)); Miles better case;

i5 2500k vs 955BE

HD6970 vs HD5850

EDIT: Beaten like a ginger-step son. Ah well, I need to get faster at this spec mullarky. Gives you another option anyway.

cookeh thats a very good spec indeed i would go with that if you have that much money but if not amd will suit you fine i have the 955 and im very happy with it just make sure you have a good cooler its toasty :P

Crossfire was only optional, depending how things go later on down the line. But thanks!

Still wondering over the two cards...whether or not the extra omph! is worth the price difference...

Extra ooomph is always good, but that also depends on the screen resolution you use?

And the motherboard in post#2 does crossfire etc, which is why I included it.

Max screen resolution on my new monitor is 1920x1080. The extra oomph should be grand.

Personally, with the more expensive card I don't think I'll need to crossfire.

Thanks for the help, will be nice to finally have a decent system on the go.

Single card will be better at the mo - no microstutter, scaling or driver issues :p

+1 to the above, my DX11 card is being wasted on sodding Vista :(
