Badabing!
I was involved in the first 0.9r=1 thread on this forum, back around 2003. I can still remember someone (whose name I remember and who is still a member here) saying "I don't care what Hawking would say, I don't care if God himself came down and told me 0.9r=1, I know it doesn't". There's misplaced confidence and then there's flat out delusion.Welcome to the internet, where everyone is an expert of a subject regardless whether they passed any exams after GCSE.
x or * ?I wonder if this thread would have reached page 2 if instead the OP instead said:
6 ÷ 2 x (1+2)

Another good line which someone came out with and which a friend (who used to be a member here and did maths with me) and I still laugh about was "Well what happens when you use all the 9's in the world!!". We imagine someone putting their hand up in a maths exam and saying "Excuse me, I've run out of 7s, can I have some more please?".LOL also the idea of trying to debate something like 0.9r=1 (for which there already exist proofs) is a bit silly.
How many people in this thread could solve something like 4x'' - 3x' + x = 4cos(2t) ? Problems like that are infinitely more useful than arguing about a 'problem' defined by sloppy notation but calculus is something you have to put in time to understand. Everyone can understand the basic arithmetic involved in the original post and rather than invest time learning new stuff which they might not understand they spend that time arguing about something pointless. I've argued with plenty of physics/maths hacks over the years and its common for them to spend more time explaining why they won't answer a simple question than it would take to answer the question. Threads like this remind me of that sort of behaviour.

6/2(1+2) = 6/2(3) = 3(3) = 9
BODMAS! Simples.
