Hi there I have around £500 to spend on a new graphics card(s) I am a nvidia man and have seen the 6990 but dont want too much noise. in an ideal world I would just buy the GTX590 if it didnt have the issues. I was thinking of GTX580 SLI but everyone says its a waste as I game at 1920 x 1080. so I have now seen 2GB palit gtx560ti for £190 so was wondering what kind of performance i would get? Im only getting 25-30fps on crysis 2 with a gtx295 at max settings! am i best gettin 1 580 now and another later or will the 2 x gtx 560s be plenty?

GTX560 SLI would be closer to GTX580 performance than GTX590 i'd have said.

How about a single GTX580?

Make sure you have VERY good airflow in your case, otherwise you're going to end up in the same situation as if you'd have gotten a GTX590 in the first place. :p

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card @ £224.99 inc VAT

GX-128-MS_400.jpg

Can be modded to HD 6970 as it has the dual BIOS switch.

2 of these will be faster than both the 590 and 6990 for £450!

Wow what's the noise like? On the 2 6950s when over clocked?
I don't know about the noise on the frozr III, but I have 6950>70 xfire with ac extreme coolers on them and I don't see the need in over clocking them yet, performance is mental already.:D

Thought these werent unlockable due to not being reference design!?

The frozer II can be shader unlocked with rbe iirc but can be risky as there is no dual bios switch if anything goes wrong.

MSI has left the bios switch on this time with the new frozr III probably to increase sales this time as I'm sure it didn't help the frozr II sales with it removed.

I have two 6950s unlocked and overclocked to death and i have set the fans @ 60% its not bad at all. (drops down to 25% on desktop)

If your going to SLI 590s your going to need some MASSIVE air flow and a small power station in the case :) Will be hotter than the sun.

O forgot to say i have always been on the green team till18mths ago and will not go back as yet,I have had a 5870,2 5970s, 6990(for 2 days didnt OC) and settled on these 6950s

Do you not miss the Physx? I Am tempted by ATIs offerings, just always owned nvidias and finding it hard to make the move lol :)
I have been using hybrid physx since I got my 5870, I do personally like having the effects(I don't care if others don't) although I had to take out my 9800 because I went xfire. I do miss it a bit, but imo, I think it's not getting used as much now in games because AMD's sales have rocketed because nvidia couldn't get a dx 11 card out for 6+ months.
I also think developers are realising they may possibly be alienating potential customers because they can't use it.

I was a nvidia diehard but I don't care any more, I get the best bang for buck every time now.
It was a bit strange at first with Ati, but you get used to it quite quickly and the drivers haven't been an issue either for me either.
Both drivers can have their faults I suppose but I wouldn't say ones better than the other.

The only thing i have found with drivers is every blue moon after a BSOD or something like that it forgets i have xfire. All thats needed for me to fix it is just a boot.

I have just seen your sig. 50inc 3d. Not sure how ATI will handle that.

O well happy days. saved your pocket a hit and you will get the same performance.

£400 will get you 2 6950s (well 6970s) and you dont need 1.21 gigawatts

seriously the whole power joke is getting old now, the 500 series doesn't need much at all compared to the 470/480 if anything i reckon its the other way around this time with ATI.

Well since OP has a 3D Display might want to consider going ATI as it would be compatible with your 3D Setup using a 1.4 HDMI but can only use it for films etc as games require 3rd party drivers and they suck not worth the time and effort.
