Bullying at school

If they refuse to hand over the phone do you really think they are going to obey that? It doesn't happen believe me.

If you talk like that they're not going to are they?

Hell, I wouldn't have handed over my phone and I was a tame student.

Why would a teacher even ask for the phone? Presumably they've disrespected and interrupted the lesson and the other pupils... why would you even let them stay in the class?

The teachers usually do let them stay in with no repercussions, if the teacher has to go hunting for the HOY or a member of senior management that takes 10 minutes and before you know the lesson has been wrecked - simply put teachers just can't be bothered as senior management do little.

They should just transfer students like that to military school.

I really couldn't count the teaching hours wasted on trying to deal with disruptive pupils at my school.

bullies will do it over literally anything , her problem is letting it get to her , if she could ignore it they would move onto the next person and thing

admittedly this is a hard thing for a young person to do. id definitely let the teachers know because the sort of person who bullies someone over something so trivial will probably stop as soon as they get in trouble

If you can't get a student to leave the class then there's probably something wrong on your end... or simply don't let them in the class again until you've had a meeting with their parents or otherwise sorted the problem they're having?

The same kid will no doubt be a **** in one lesson and an angel in another; it's all up to the teacher in my opinion.

It's always been the case, if you don't have the latest stuff, or the 'right' brand names on your clothes then you'll get looked down on and bullied. It's just kids being stupid kids, it's not like they did anything special to get their stuff, they just have richer parents.

They may be richer parents, or they may just spend money differently - I know a very well off child who only updated his black and white phone a few years ago, and others who own iphones despite not being particularly well off, it just depends on the parent...

Children in general love to bully others, it makes them feel good about themselves, possibly also happy that it's not them being bullied... Being different in some way does make you a potential target, but let's remember that children differ in many ways other than their phones. - I wouldn't be surprised if the phone wasn't the only reason she's being bullied - it may just be her personality which makes her a target, and the phone is just something they can tease her about to make themselves feel good.

Edit: this:
If she wasn't bullied for her phone then it would be something else.

Does that count when they're walking to and from school?

Wow, get your head up from those clouds.

I work in an education environment. I also worked for 2 years in a teaching environment with 12-16 year olds....so iv seen it all. nothing to do with clouds.

If you honestly think a kid needs a phone at school then im really sorry but your part of the problem and most defaintly not part of the solution when it comes to over nannying children and making them grow into indepedant adults.

now im not sure how old you are but i suspect fairly young and certainly dont have kids of your own or really have anything to do with them, sounds very much like your looking at this from a typical 16 year old point of view where me , me, me means it must be right.
and in this whole thread you havent actually given one good reason why children should have them at school?

and as for your walking comment, i wont even bother responding to that as its so ridiculous.

Maybe you could teach yourself on how to spell and use correct grammar?

Claiming to work in an educational environment, I sure hope you weren't teaching English...

As to my reasons, I have stated quite a valid one. In which I've had a personal experience to when I was at school way back.

I really don't understand why so many are oblivious to it?

Accidents, problems etc - what reason require that a mobile phone is not needed?

This is just going to round and round...

What accidents or problems? Is your child ever on there own in a middle of a field or something and might drop down with broken ankles?

what accidents or problems?

In this day and age, anything can happen.

Kid gets knocked over, driver speeds off. Now what?

"I know, give 5mins to run around knocking on doors to use a phone for an ambulance."

"Why not use a mobile phone?"

"Don't be silly, I don't have one they're not needed, brb."

What if it was your child? Maybe there were other people about, maybe not...

Could be endless amounts of things... It's also all "ifs and maybes".

Put it how you want, I've yet to see how NOT having one for emergencies is fine...

the phones are not even being used in emergencies, so why the stipulation of emergency only anyway?

how far is your kid walking? schools are in built up areas, there are countless adults around and populated houses.

if you are that scared of your kid being knocked over pick them up and drop them off.
How many kids have been knocked over at your kids school? (i'm assuming you have kids, but have a feeling you dont)
