You have two choices which cost about the same.

option 1

Hd 5870
60gb crucial m4

Option 2

Gtx 570

I'll be playing at 1600x1050 for a while and I'll be using a 2500k system. I was building a gaming computer but the 5870 would probably suffice. I have a xfx 850w psu so I could go crossfire with both options later on.

So which would you choose?

I'm on the fence.

I can't justify an SSD purchase at current prices, but a 570 is overkill for your res

think of it this way, buy 1 570 now n in a few years completely replace it for a new single slot card

or buy a 5870 now n in a few years buy a 2nd one when there fairly cheap n crossfire it? :)

Would 5870 crossfire be good enough for 3d. My next upgrade would probably be one of the new samsung 9 series that has integrated 3d. This might be a question better suited to the monitors section but do you need a graphics card with 1.4 hdmi for this to work?

Surely I could buy another gtx570 in a few years as well? I think I'd prefer a ssd so I'm going with a 5870.

The only 5870 I see anywhere is the xfx 5870. What would the noise and temps be like with these in xfire?

Just make sure you get the right motherboard for SLI/crossfire that runs both of the PCI-E slots at equal speeds.

Option 1 is the best choice for you here. Upgraded graphics, plus rapid speeds. :)

SSD's are worth it now I personally think, the speeds are just fantastic.

Option 1 for sure (maybe even substitute a 5850 and overclock it, very cheap now). SSD will improve performance all over not just in games, and gfx card will be plenty for that res
