First car guide

Focus imho too, cheap to fix and common as hell, and not looking too old.

My advise is to spend as little as possible, save up for a nicer more expensive car for your 2nd car. 1k tops.

Was exacly what i was thinking of spending only around 1k for it, and the rest of the 3k would go towards insurance/mot/tax and parts if needed hopefully not :)
Dont want to wreck a nice 3grand car ha ;)

Don't worry too much about engine size, a 1.6 Focus probably wont have a huge difference in speed compared to a 1.2 clio/1.25 fiesta (off the top of my head i've got no idea which would be faster) It will however be a nicer place to be if you crash and insurers should take this into account.

Same story with a mondeo 1.8, probably be able to find insurance in the same sort of ballpark as the smaller cars and pay the same sort of money to buy them, but the mondeo again, nicer place to be, nicer place to be if you crash.

Recent Corollas have been dull dull dull, I think with a bit of thought (and asking people is a good start) you should end up with a much better car history than your dad... Unless his old corolla was a fettled AE86

Don't dismiss the classic thing as well btw, your looking at car+insurance and budgeting £3k, with a bit of thought and a good deal you can get insured for £500 or so through a specialist, pick up something stylish for £1k and blow the rest on cola and rugby players *ahem!* Only young once ;)

I cant get insured for £500, lol
The cheapest i have managed to search up was like £1200 and thats on my dads insurance with all his no claims on top of that,
And yeah really do like the classics but my dad wouldnt drive a car so old :/

If you are looking for something a bit different how about a classic? Cheap to insure and great fun.

How about this for example for £1600

1.3 litre engine, no tax, small but will fit 4 people and looks really cool imo. Have a look round that site as there are some bargins on there :)

They were great except the brakes didnt work :)

As a Corsa driver I can highly recommend you don't get one. The insurance is way over the top, it's cheap, tacky and plastic, great speed in a straight line but it doesn't like corners :D

I get my 1 year NCB next month and i'll be changing to something different as soon as my wages hit my account.

haha funny you mention a corsa i really liked the car :D
oh well stick with a focus or maybe a fiesta

I had a very similar car to this :

As my second car, It was a pretty tidy place to be - insurance was fairly cheap - and In the two years I had it, bar an oil change, nothing went wrong (IMHO the TU Type engine would run through a nuclear apocolypse...), part leather seats are comfy too!

Got mine for just under a grand, and at the time it had 73k on the clock.

The 306 do look very nice, better than a saxo anyday :D

My Focus was a 1.4 and did feel underpowered (got a good deal at the time though) and economy wise there's little to no difference between that and 1.6. Don't worry about jumping on a bigger engine, none of those are powerhouses compared to learner 1.whatever cars.

Yeah true only thing that's putting me off the focus is the size :/
