So, on the Bay, Hero's Quest is going for £120+ and for a present that's just way too much.

So i was wondering if there is a modern day equivalent, that isn't warhammer or incredible complex.

Cheers.

£120?!

Hero Quest or Warhammer Quest? I think they're different games. Both rubbish, by the way. Get a D&D set, should be ablet o pick up the 4th edition set for £40-£50 or so, can pick up teh core rulebooks later if present-receiver gets into it.

Can't recommend "Mansions of Madness" enough. It has that same various scenario options and lashings of flavour and atmosphere that Hero Quest had -- making it more like a role-playing board game than anything else.

It's brilliant.

EDIT: There's also "Dungeon Quest", "Descent", or "Munchkin Quest" (if you enjoy a good dose of humour, too).

This is for a 8 year old kid. Really don't think he'll pick up D&D.

I can't see any that have actually gone for about £120 - most of them £20-50 depending on condition, looking at completed listings...

Yep, brilliant site.

Check out http://www.gameslore.com as a retailer. Their service is second to none, and they have a HUGE range of games available.

If you find something there that you think might fit the bill, look it up on BoardGameGeek and you'll find everything about it from reviews, to pictures, to the rules themselves in downloadable form (and rules cheat sheets, too, which are invaluable).
