I am currently tidying up my garage, unfortunately the paint on the door is all cracked and peeling off and being a double door I can see stripping the paint off being a massive undertaking. Also the door has a dent in it and the frame around the outside is rotten.

So, new garage door time - how much are my pants going to be pulled down for an up and over double garage door/frame? Anyone have any recommendations in the south east (Heathrow/Windsor area). It's about 14ft by 7ft.

I replaced mine with pine opening out doors from howdens about £150 plus the ironmongery plus frame plus fitting about one day for a chippie plus painting.

Gives you more headroom and you can pull the frame to the front giving you more room

Check eBay for fixed price direct replacements as well

Hmmm actually opening out doors would work well, the garage has a pitched roof.

The problem is though that in this small cul de sac there is a sort of unwritten agreement to keep things looking standard so I really want one of those doors with the 'panels' in them. Although I'm the only one with a detached garage which is at the back so I could probably get away with it without annoying anyone too much. Thanks for the idea.

This is the door in question:

Don't be daft everyone in this cul de sac has different types and colours of door, most don't put cars in them, some have converted them into rooms.

I'm not being daft, I know where I live and I know the neighbours. It's been this way since the 1970s when the houses were built and everyone keeps everything looking neat so I'm not complaining about it. But that's not relevant to the thread anyway.

This will be a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle to simply pay someone to repaint the door mate. If the door works fine then dont replace it :p

The current door needs to come off to replace one side of the frame, its got dents in it, there is a gaffer tape repair to the bottom one side (painted over) and the paint is either flaking off or stuck hard, it would take days to strip.

I'd rather a nice new shiny door tbh. ;)

and you need the weathered oak like i told you quite clearly

in fact its called green oak pretty damn good let me tell you
