I was told off earlier today by some busybody for parking on the pavement in the street nearest to where I live. This is on a narrow road where every other parked car happened to be parked on the pavement. Otherwise there wouldn't be room for other vehicles to get past.
Her: You know parking on the pavement is illegal, right?
Me: Yes, but if I don't park on the pavement, I'll be blocking the road, which is even more illegal.
Her: Please do, it would stop other people coming down here!
Me: ...
Her: I sometimes report things like this to the police, so you've been warned.
And then she walks off.
Yes I know it's technically illegal to park with wheels on the pavement, but surely common sense has to come in to play here? I've been careful not to block any doorways; I've parked next to a stone wall. Every other street around here has exactly the same problem of being too narrow to park legally on, and everyone parks on the pavement. There's nothing anyone can do about the streets being narrow, so we all do the best we can; this sometimes means bending the rules.
Am I in the wrong?
*waits for accusations of being an inconsiderate yobbo*
