As many people will be aware, Driver Sweeper is a piece of software that cleans the registry of old drivers etc.

Anyway their was a bug on the old versions of Driver Sweeper Version 2.8.5 - 22-01-11 and prior releases in which if your using AMD/ATI Graphics cards it would remove windows (ATI/AMD) system drivers required if you updated to Windows Service Pack 1 which has been fixed in versions 2.9.0 and newer - SP1 checks to see if all system drivers are there, if they are not it won't install.

If anyone does a search for Driver Sweeper you will notice it brings up the Guru3D website, the problem is they list version 2.1.0 which dates back to 2009 and they have never updated the website regardless of numerous people on the Guru3D forums notifying Guru3D about the updates - they simply delete the posts.

It's as if Hilbert Hagedoorn (Owner of Guru3D) is reluctant to make software updates on their website, when the developer requested Hilbert to remove the Driver Sweeper software from the Guru3D website he was banned from the forums, all e-mails whether from the developer or people using the forums to request the update to the latest version were deleted off the Guru3D forums.

So there you go, a big thumbs down to Guru3D website  people oblivious to this will be just downloading the old software from your website.

For anyone wanting to use Driver Sweeper - download it from the developers website: http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-3-0-0/ (Current Version)

That would explain quite a few people's issues with the application.

Evidently it brings a lot of traffic to the Guru3D site (which I don't normally read, only download the odd thing) but why wouldn't they just update it?

Hilbert Hagedoorn is an idiot. He has blocked plenty of usefull overclocking applications from being released/supported on his site, and the abusive emails he sent the developers ("telling them to take it down" in a rather less polite way) were flat out disgraceful.

Aye the intentions look clear, I hope the developer does something about it and gets it removed for Guru3D website.

Quite a few people have replied about it, the guy at Techpowerup suggested this:

sending a dmca notice to guru3d's isp, requesting a takedown of the software should help to get things moving

Looks like good advice, would start the ball rolling at least - worth a try as he is protected by copyright laws.

Where did you pull this BS from?

Phyxion the Driversweeper auth was caught putting adware installers in the later versions so Hilbert wouldn't put the new version his site. The issue was compounded by the fact it seemed to be getting more and more buggy anyways so they fell out and went their separate ways.

It was a crap app that causes more problems than it solved TBQFH.

As kitch9 has said, I've just installed v3.0.0 and wasn't impressed with what it tries to do (or what you agree to during the install). Luckily NOD32 blocked it for me, so I've gone ahead and installed it anyway:-

What about MOST mainstream apps trying to install Google Chrome or browsing bars? Are they all banned also? Really winds me up as sometimes I do not watch all the options!

Erm, it has potential to be a great website with excellent resources.

It's mostly the reviews, most bias Pos reviews ever.

I'd love to know why you think its biased.......

Driversweeper was affiliated with Guru3d, and Hilbert does not want his affiliated partners shoving crap-ware down his readers throats. He tries to only provide non-affiliated apps for download that are crap-free too, but stuff like optional tool-bar installs my still be present.

Not sure why you wouldn't want to install Chrome though, its an excellent browser.

Hilbert is a ****, he allows rampant abuse, trolling on his forum and what's even more incredible the forum has actually banned the word overclockers.co.uk!!!. Him and Unwinder go well together, the developer of that afterburner software has a very bad attitude problem not only does he talk down to people he comes across with an attitude like derek smart. That guy has some talent but he treats people with problems as children thus i'm Not impressed.

and Firegod , yes but i don't see that as a problem all you do is click " Don't install this software " and that's it, christ so so many apps now have other apps that want to install if you don't read the install instructions!. Want Yahoo?, it wants to install a toolbar.. There isn't an app today that doesn't have an option of " tick this " if you don't want to install this addon or app

Exactly!

In all my years of using driversweeper i've NEVER had a problem, i've always read the install instructions and i never un-install chipset drivers

There isn't an option for "don't install this software".

I know perfectly well that other apps install other pieces of software, but at least you get a choice and can either select or deselect it.

Unwinder is an idiot... Afterburner is great... shame about the person who makes it!

Na he's not an idiot hence the software :p he's just arrogant, big headed, stubborn and a bully. He has a god complex :o

Yes there is, want me to prove it?

Untick the little box, that's it that little one... Strange that doing that, no other software has installed!

Please, cause I've just uninstalled and reinstalled it and I can't see a box to deselect. NOD32 blocks the website as soon as I run the install before even clicking the first "next" button.

Tick the circle/box " Do Not install blah blah " Then click next, that's it and no software has ever been installed other than driversweeper :)

And don't click show me more software !

Interesting, thanks Neil! I do not get that screen, so I take back what I said before apologies about that... I wonder if that is what NOD32 is blocking for me?

LoL. I would love why you thinks it's not.

Matter of opinion.

Most reviews on the net can have holes picked in them depending on your way of thinking, so using them individually may not be a good idea. Its always best to use numerous reviews to base your purchasing decisions on and Guru3d always seem be there or there-abouts with everybody else.

There's a reason why OcUK isn't allowed to be promoted over there and its a matter for both site owners to figure out between themselves if they ever wish.
