Bit of a long winded post, but I would like to hear others opinion on this.

Came back last night from a pretty poor experience in a club in West Leicestershire.

Upon entering, we all paid the entry fee and went in, when I was told by one of the staff to remove my jacket (Of all the clubs i've been to in the Mids, I've never been asked to do that before btw)

I always keep my wallet in my inside pocket because it's quite large, same with my phone so I don't feel comfortable either A) carrying them around in my hand or B) stuffing them in my trouser pocket where they're liable to fall onto the floor. I mentioned this to the member of staff, but he didn't seem to take it very well and insisted I pay to leave everything in the closet.

I was pretty insistent I was not going to leave all my collateral (credit/debit cards etc) with some stranger, and so put all my £££'s in my trouser pocket and removed my jacket and placed it on the seat and sat next to it.

From here it pretty much went downhill, and was cursed at several times before being threatened with violence. On this note, I decided to leave and make my way home, rather than get into a situation or cause all my friends to leave and go somewhere else with me. I did ask to be refunded before leaving and was duly given back my money.

I don't know how else I should have reacted tbh. And feel quite cut up about it, i'd go as far to say it was quite distressing at the time. does it come accross quite childish that I wasn't 'doing as I was told'??

To be honest, I would have just took my coat off. Some clubs you need to look smart and coats generally don't.

No doubt they over reacted which isn't a suprise. Maybe take less out with you or wear jeans that have big pockets? I'd hate wearing or carrying around a coat in a club.

Doormen.. What other sort of approach were you expecting if you didn't comply?
At least you got your money back. Be thankful of that and just vote with your wallet next time and go somewhere else.

Sounds like dreadful service, but then clubs tend to hire steroid-addled ex-cons for a reason. They are not creatures to be reasoned with and logic is an alien concept to them; do as your told or adequately shield your back passage from them.

Can't say I've ever been to a club where I the choice to pay a cloak room fee or leave was forced upon me though. If I found myself at such an establishment, I doubt I'd be there for more than a couple of minutes. I don't deal well with being yelled at by those of sub-par intellect, so I'd avoid giving them an opportunity to do so.

Sounds like they had a dress code and didn't care about your excuses for not wanting to comply with it to be honest. We can all shout "I'm a customer" but at the end of the day, it's their house not ours.

Most bouncers are complete douchebags that only need one reason to start a fight with you :(

Nonetheless, if the club had a dress code, you should have checked before and not brought a jacket in the first place...

Unfortunately unless you go to student clubs (by that I essentially mean SUs, with mostly student bouncers) it is essentially that. I've met some great bouncers before but the vast majority have been doormen at Student unions...

You can rolleyes all you like.
I guess you are a doorman :p

Take note of the ending of my sentence "if you didn't comply"
Most doormen I've ever met are courteous if you are not an asshat. Once you start acting like one, or not complying with what they ask you to do, you have to expect a bit of verbal and threats of violence. It's the only language most of the knuckdraggers they deal with day in day out will understand.

Keep up the good work. :D

All the bouncers I've ever encountered have been entirely sound - I don't understand the hate! Obviously, as with any group of people, there will be bad eggs... but bouncers aren't some evil group of people... unless you're all ****s who go out to wind them up :confused:.

Yeah same, can't say I ever had a bad experience with bouncers, they all seem actually pretty nice? Their just people like you and me trying to do a job, if you're being loud/look scruff/social inept then maybe that's why their being douches to you because their worried you're going to cause trouble :D

How did you guess :p, people just seem to think most of us enjoy roughing up the poor innocent kids because we've got nothing better to do with our evenings.
While i'll happily say that some do the same as you get bellends in every job, most of us are much happier when we can just have a quiet night and a laugh with the punters.

You wear a jacket when going out?

Up north you would be looked at funny lol, Because we are all double hard ********.

In reality I think most cba with taking a jacket about as you do have to take it off in pretty much every bar, club for your own sake (it's hot) than anything else.

I dont see the issue, if the club rules say you have to check in your jacket you have to check in your jacket.

I remembre around 10 years ago I was in a nasty club in prague and some Russian bloke got very ****ed because they would not allow him to come in with his gun lol:rolleyes:
