The problem is that the 6990 contains of two 6970 chips which are Cayman XT and the 6950 contains of the Cayman Pro dispite the Shader unit amount difference their are other little problems indicated such as unequal RAM timings and other little unsimilarities which disturb the full synchronization of CF with the 6990 and the unlocked 6950 of yours.
In theory CF with any AMD model of card should be fine but the reality shows that it sometimes can cause some unstable operation of the gpu.

Consider that and make sure you have the latest drivers installed and CF fully enabled because even without 6950/6990 CF those scores seem pretty low.

got the above off another forum

im thinking of going trifire with this setup, i also have 2600k oc'd 4.4(for time being) 2 harddrives 7 120mm fans waterpump, will my nearly new corsair hx 850w handle it, i reckon it should but just wanted to make sure.

It should be fine, I've had 6870+6850 before and never noticed any stuttering. Given that the only difference between and unlocked 6950 and the 6990 will be the memory timinings (clock speed differences can easily be rectified), there should be no problem crossfiring the two.

As for power consumption, 850W will be cutting it close: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/04/11/amd_radeon_69906970_crossfirex_trifire_review/8

Unless you're gaming at 2560x1440/1600 or using Eyefinity, there's not much point going for Tri-fire.

yes seems close but these hx850 can go way past 850w, up to 1000w ive heard.

also if i was to get one of these i would have to fork out for another miniport right? unless i have the 6950 in the top pcie slot....but will that be non beneficial in anyway?

If your case has good airflow, I would purchase another 6950. 3 Cards in TRIfire will yield higher performance; though at the cost of increased temps.

i was thinking that, but the last card would be running at 4x however
the 4x doesnt bother me too much as ive seen some benches and it loses about 4 percent, or maybe i should sell this brand new b3 deluxe p8p67 and get the asus p8p67 revoluion that officially suppors tri fire, runs 16x8x8 nf200 chip.

just dont want to have trouble maxing out my games on three screens, and i know i wont with a 6990 as a couple of ppl have the setup im after here and they run their games fine. mind you if you are saying three 50's would be more powerfull.

plus just realised my case wont accept a card in the last slot unless i hack it of course.

hmmm got me thinking now as i reckon i could get a case on top tooand it will still work out cheaper
