Hi guys, I have my CPU fan plugged into the correct header on mobo (akasa viper fan, gigabyte 785gt mobo) with cool & quiet turned on in the bios, yet the fan is still running at 1984rpm which is giving out a high pitched noise (doing my nut in). My 955be is practically at stock @ 3.4mhz with 1.25v.

Yet before I changed case the fan was barely hitting 1000rpm.

Any ideas? Cheers.

Hi, set the CPU setting to PWM in Bios, mine is under > CPU smart fan mode set to PWM, check your mobo manual for the PWM setting.

Hi mate, yeah I have done that, but has had no affect. What does PWM mean/do exactly?

Fiddled with bios for ages, still nothing.

PWM is the setting that controls PWM fans speed, check your mobo manual for the PWM setting or it might be called something else, just have a good read, some times it helps if you have your bios up and ready it helps you understand the settings in the manual.

Note---> are all the fans the same thats connected to the PWM Splitter ie: x2 or x3 Vipers., if not they will run at full speed.

I think I know the problem. I have 2x Vipers plugged into the mobo, they are 4pin fans plugged into 3pin headers, and the cpu Viper obviously plugged into the cpu fan header.

So I take it the 4th pin on the viper is the PWM? Thus not being used?

Hi, you can connect x3 vipers to the splitter, and one header goes to the CPU header and you know where the molex goes lol. They should still have there labels on...

Hi, is that a viper fan on the Venom heatsink have you connected the header from it to the CPU header? The other to just go to mobo fan headers, have a look at a bit software called Speed fan it might help you with your other viper speed settings turn them down, or you might have a bit software that came with your mobo, under utilities.

Yeah it's in the cpu header.

Speedfan does nothing lol, tried that the other day.

Yes, the PWM splitter will do that, thats what i use to control x3 fans on my Rad, its a good bit of kit, your not a noob everybody has to start from scratch bud. ;) :)

Make sure the fan header from the Viper on the venom is connected to the CPU Header 4pin, see manual should be top left on mobo.

Get bios up, look for PC HEALTH STATUS AT THE BOTTOM > ENTER ~> at the bottom for CPU SMART FAN MODE > SET TO PWM, REMEMBER TO SAVE AND EXIT F10.

CPU Smart FAN Mode -
Specifies how to control CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only if CPU Smart FAN Control is set to Enabled.

Auto Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of CPU fan installed and sets the optimal CPU fan control mode. (Default)

Voltage Sets Voltage mode for a 3-pin CPU fan.

PWM Sets PWM mode for a 4-pin CPU fan.
