NATO air strike possibly kills Gaddafi's son

Tell that to the families of 1 million dead Iraqi people.

Iraq clearly had nothing to do with saving the people of Iraq, WMD nor toppling a dictatorship.

If we waged war on China or Russia then many lives would be lost on both sides (UK armed forces would be annhilated). So why would we even consider it?

Would you attempt something impossible regardless of the cost?

(I'd hope that a Typhoon would be able to do a 3:1 battle quite easily against the majority of the syrian airforce due to it's ability to project far beyond visible range).
would like to think so as typhoon apparently fared very well against india's SU-30's in the bidding for india's fighter contract.

So can we stop all the rubbish about saving innocent lives then?
what so if we dont rescue people in a country we cant help, we shouldnt rescue people in a country we can help?

what kind of messed up thinking is that? its pretty sick really. in response to your question, i do think its a shame that they wont be helped but thats the situation we have. if you want to fantasise about ideal situations
could I add "fund the military a lot more so we can take care of the commitments our lovely voters want us to engage in"? i take it you will be happy with the corresponding increase in tax? because i dont think we could take on another conflict even if we wanted to.

I am not the one choosing who to save, what about the people of Syria, Saudi and Bahrain?

see my edit. fund it and it could be possible but its not going to happen as it is undo-able as we are now, oh and wait 10 years for the funding to kick in.

Doesn't that make us rather shallow; bullets and bombs in one direction and notions of disdain in the other?

Cowardace or inferiority?

So we should declare war on china, russia and America and all be happy knowing that the atomic inferno we die in wasn't shallow.

Incapable of doing it all I guess?

We could do so much more with the money in a humanitarian sense away from single 'disturbances' we feel the need to elbow in on....

Common sense?

No doubt, but I'm talking morality not so much we should do it right now, I know we can't. Does that make our judgement calls automatically correct?

No, because it isn't worth that. But, your not that far away from my line of thinking but then you have another problem at that point, the air of superiority with project with our life and governance 'choices'.

reality of capabilities.

oh so you dont want us to engage in every nation with problems in the world?

No doubt, but I'm talking morality not so much we should do it right now, I know we can't. Does that make our judgement calls automatically correct?
er no, we are not talking in a fantasy land of hope. we are talking about the situation right now. the only morality is the morality applicable to helping who we can and the situation as it is now.

the air of superiority with project with our life and governance 'choices'.
maybe your just projecting under your own perceived inferiority as your opinion is based on wishes and not whats happening?

So what is the criteria for intervention?
ability to do it. if you want to up our ability, fund the people that do it.

Drop the pendancy, the statement is more than obvious in its intent given the context.
quite, but since your arguing two idealistic views that contradict each other. im just trying to point out your contributions are worthless unless you base them on the reality of the situation being discussed so that they have any sort of relevancy.
