Still nothing really better than 5770?

Is there anything better than a 5770 in terms of efficiency with the same criteria: low idle power, single 6pin connector and decent load power/performance.

Well that's all pretty subjective, but a 6850 only needs a single 6-pin, 125W max draw, and totally wipes the floor with the 5770 in terms of performance.

As highlighted above, if you are buying new then the HD 6850 is the best choice if you have those requirements.

However, if you are looking for an upgrade then I would keep hold of the HD 5770 for the time being.

Graphics cards using the new (and much smaller) 28nm process are expected by the end of the year (using the same architecture) so you can expect a lot more graphical grunt for the same power envelope.

Until 28nm comes along the HD6850 is about as good as it gets for single 6-pin powered cards. Personally I think the 6850 is a brilliant value for money you can pick these up for £111 each and pair these up in crossfire and putting aside the downsides to multiple GPU's for a moment you have a GTX580 beating package for £222.

CFX 6850 is like a performance wet dream :). Really good scaling too, and teeny power draw.

Cheers guys, I'm looking to buy new and tempted by the single slot 5770 at £87, I'll have a look into these 6850's. The 28nm sound great, but perhaps too far away for midrange cards.

I've just moved away from CF 5770's to a 6950 (with unlocked shaders @ 6970 clocks). The difference isn't out of this world, but my god the 6950 is quieter.

5770's are LOUD.

Should I buy another 5770 and run in crossfire mode or step up and buy a single 6850.They are vapor x cards.

Go make your own thread :p.

5770 crossfire would give you better performance but obv. less upgrade potential in the future. Though at this point I'd pick up a cheap 5770 and wait for the new generation to come out.
