In a fridge, does the higher the number mean the colder it is?

Yes, higher = colder on tiny nob fridges

Now have a digital fridge that lets you specify the temp, its also big enough to keep a dog in! The dog isnt pleased about that...

Test it your damn self, good lord.
Really? you can percieve a temperature difference of as little as four degrees at the range of 1 to 5 degrees accurately? good for you. most people don't have thermocouples built into their hands.
<edit> and don't have thermometers that work accurately near zero degrees.

Do you, by any chance, have a PhD in Stupid?
Apparently i do, because i'm sure of the answer. seeing as you don't, why not elaborate and explain it to us because we're obivously so thick?

Search online for a user manual for your specific fridge and get the answer?

I've read the manual for my fridge. it says absolutely nothing about how the temperature setting actually relates to the temperature.

When I die, I'm going to be burried vertically in a fridge with all my clothes on inside out and facing West in the middle of a field!

That should give the equivalent of the 26th century Time Team a bit of a headache to work out! :D

I think he meant use a thermometer.... I personally have found normal household thermometers to be quite accurate.
