Hey guys.

In my new system i've got my GTX460 OC edition which is quiet, silent.

However if I shove my inno3d 8800GTS 640mb in as a physX card it breaks this silence, its so loud.

Are they known for being loud and why on earth does it have to spin so fast if its not even being used for graphics or display? Could I make the fan a lot slower or does being used for Physx still put the same sort of strain on the card that it needs gets as hot as it would do as a normal graphics card?

I'd really like to use this as a physx card if possible, as it could shave quite a few frames off of some games.. but only worth it if I don't really know its there..

Thoughts?

Doing physx will still be putting the card under a lot of strain, as from memory it uses the GPU and memory to do the physics calculations, it just doesn't use the output part for the display (basically the card is still using most of the same bits it would do if working as a normal video card).

It depends how much you want to spend.

This is quite quiet if you turn the fan down a bit but they are out of stock at the moment:

I used them a few years ago on ATI HD 4870's.

I connected the fan header to the motherboard and was able to turn the fan down to around 1,500rpm and that provided adequate cooling.

Thanks for the suggestion, ill do some researching along with my loud Kuhler research!! :)

Just a note on using an old dedicated physx card with a newer card.

Possibly bottlenecking it.

Interesting, you see i'd be happy knowing it would just slow things down as it would then be not worth having it in my machine and not worth it creating so much noise.

Not sure on how much difference there is between the 8600 and the 8800 though. I suppose I could do a similiar test as I own Mafia 2. :)
