When was the last time you remembered why you love driving?

The other day, seen as there is pretty much no police or traffic cameras up here and some of the best roads in the UK well its pretty hard to not enjoy driving :)

Take it you live no where near Edinburgh? :p

So OCUK motors, when was the last time you remembered why you love driving?

When I put too much power on half way round a roundabout earlier after work. ;) :D

Usually when I head to my parents I get to have some properly good fun driving so love it every time I go home. I don't mind my commute, I actually find it quite nice to be sat in traffic these days. :)

Despite having a Lotus Elise (supercharged) I am finding it very difficult to enjoy the car...

- Insurance went up so much (despite no negatives for me) that I had to reduce my annual mileage to 1/3rd of what it was last year, to keep it the same price. I'm limited to 3k miles pa now for £700. I was quoted (best offer from all Insurance comps) at £1800 for 10k miles, which cost me £700 last year.

- Means I cannot drive it as much (was my daily drive)

- When i'm in the car, it seems to attract idiots trying to race you...

- ... and idiots who slow right down when you come up behind them (e.g. on a 60MPH straight country road last night, there were 2 cars, both doing ~30-35MPH once I appeared behind)

- ... when you go to overtake, they do dangerous things like accelerate alongside you - forcing you to really squeeze the extra juice out of your car to get rid of the idiot

- Going for a drive generally means you have to stop off somewhere - forever concerned about vandalism of such an attention grabbing car as a bright yellow Elise, means that you cannot park up anywhere remotely public without the potential for jealous damage at the back of your mind

- Coupled with the fact that I have the service (£350), auxiliary belt change (£100), road tax (£120ish), 4 new tyres (£600) and new brake pads and discs (£400) to cough up in one go is really cheesing me off further as i'm paying all this money for a car I barely drive due to prohibitively expensive insurance!

Last time I enjoyed it thoroughly was about last summer during a full day of driving with my mate in his Evo - went across North Yorkshire in the blazing sunshine and got sunburnt lol.

Today! the sun was shining, no particular place to go with the windows down just enjoying the scenery go by. No heavy foot here just the rumble of the engine as it easily glides along.

It was a little different a few weeks ago when i was in two minds about keeping the car but halving my insurance swayed me now i can just enjoy it. Until i get to the petrol station!

I always love driving. Even in my shabby 18 year old Vauxhall, just going out and heading nowhere in particular is bliss. I think I'm still haunted by memories of the first 4 months I lived in Bristol without a car, and how trapped and confined I felt.

Few weeks ago, drove down to Devon.
My car has needed a good run for a while, this was time to take advantage.

After about 30 miles on motorway I could tell the car was feeling better, it cruised well, accelerated well and held a high speed without wobble, air con worked perfectly. Made me 'love' my car again.
For the next few days the car felt fantastic again, quick and responsive :)

I really enjoyed my first car (focus 2.0 diesel), but after 2 months it lost its appeal. Have a Cayman S now and it makes me smile just to look at it. After working tonight im looking forward to heading home just so i can drive it again..... :o

Ive had the car 4 weeks now and i really hope this feeling never fades!

Thats quite a difference, no wonder you love the cayman :P

I wouldn't say I love 'driving' as in burning round twisties with my foot to the floor - I do love my drive though - there are worse commutes than cruising along Highway 101 from Santa Barbara to Ventura in the sunshine with the ocean on one side and mountains on the other

Over here you don't really get many 'fun' roads so it's more just being laidback, cruising and taking in the surroundings and sunshine :)

This morning on the way into work, nice clear roads as its early on a bank holiday.

Got the tail out round a few slow corners in the MX5, tunes on in the background, good times.

As i drive either a Scooby or an MX5 most days and live in north wales there will be some bit of my journey which i actively enjoy.

Early yesterday morning when I was blasting along a some country roads. Fast or slow I love it. I never forget but am sometimes disappointed that I can’t do it every day.

I still enjoy driving for the fun of it, even in a crummy 1.2 punto at the moment. I suspect this is massively helped by the fact I hadn't driven the car for a week while I waited to fit a new clutch. £50 later and its back on the road, all the work done by myself. Can't beat the satisfaction when it all works as it should. :)
