Osama bin Laden is dead - no graphic/violent images.

I've seen at least 3 videos of long standing news anchors messing this up.

30 years of experience they should get it right, still funny though.

I love the fact you said this, been meaning to bring it up for some time now.

How the hell do you know it's photoshopped?

By using your damned eyes.
Half the image is higher resolution than the wounded area.

Really? Okay I had to put my glasses on ;)

In your face TALIABAN/Al-QAEDA!!!!!
Yeah, one guy out of a seemingly endless supply of "terrorists".
Well done! Hoooah!

From the pixels and seeing a lot of 'shops in my time.

But half the image is clearly much higher resolution than the lower face/beard.

The guy on Sky News is asking some very probing questions this morning. Why was a million pound mansion less than 100mtrs from a Pakistan military base never under suspicion ? A house that had no telephone line or internet connection.

Seems that perhaps David Cameron's comments on Pakistan maybe weren't that far off?

Yeah, the Security Correspondent on the BBC was just asking that as well. He also asked about the role of Pakistan - The Americans wouldn't have been able to conduct such an operation without some sort of Pakistani knowledge/authorisation. I think the answers to these questions would be very interesting and telling about international politics and security (it's my area of law) but I fear that they'll be glossed over because of the 'celebration' aspect of it.

I really don't think it's going to be a massive blow to the group though and it certainly doesn't mean we can even consider changing our tactics or aims in Afghanistan. 5 or 6 years ago, yes but not now.

The news from down here said that pakistan had no knowledge about the raid before or during it happend.

Because of collusion between the Pakistan Inter-Services Intelligence and al-Qaeda, accusations have been rife for years that the ISI have indirectly supported al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Also Abbotsbad is in Northern Afghanistan which is has a large Pashtun population and is a tribal region. This is the problem with the region, the inhabitants don't see themselves as Pakistani or Afghani, but their loyalties lie within their tribal affiliations and the Taliban and their supporters al Qaeda are supported within that framework of affiliation.

Find it odd that the Americans would be able to conduct such an operation without the Pakistanis raising their eyebrows. It's far enough inside Pakistan that a few American choppers flying in, would be noticed by the military. But maybe I'm just underestimating the ability of the Americans and their tenacity... I do believe that someone high up in the Pakistani leadership/military knew that a operation was going ahead but perhaps weren't aware of the details - It's doubtful if the Americans even knew it was Bin Laden before they came face to face with him either. Then again, because of the trust issues and the accusations of Al Qaeda and Pakistani collusion it would have to be a very carefully handled intel exchange if there was one.
Like I said, I doubt we'll ever know the true ins and outs of the operation.

Flawless victory!

Considering the number of deaths on all sides from that of citizens to soldiers to militia it can hardly be called flawless. Also it looks like there is no real end in sight to the ground war in Afghanistan as well as the anticipated retaliation from Al Qaeda so can't really call it a victory either.

Apart from that it was a good statement ;)

This thread makes me putt my head in my hands and simply give an overly drawn-out exhale at the naievity and ignorance of people so ready and willing to lap up what the goverment/media feeds them. - as if Bin Laden is a greater war criminal than either of the last US presidents, our Prime Ministers or the people above them and pretending that they never supplied him with munitions and likely knew his where abouts at all times. How people still can't see our goverments are as much terrorists as Bin Laden or anyone else after the last 10 years just.....frustrates me.

What a load of rhetoric that really makes no point what so ever.
