Osama bin Laden is dead - no graphic/violent images.

I disagree. These people don't know when to give up & will fight to the last man. They will want to avenge his death as well, Obama & the rest of the Western world's leaders know that too.

In the short term, yes, undoubtedly. However, this will hurt Al-Qaeda more than us, in the long term.

This thread makes me putt my head in my hands and simply give an overly drawn-out exhale at the naievity and ignorance of people so ready and willing to lap up what the goverment/media feeds them. - as if Bin Laden is a greater war criminal than either of the last US presidents, our Prime Ministers or the people above them and pretending that they never supplied him with munitions and likely knew his where abouts at all times. How people still can't see our goverments are as much terrorists as Bin Laden or anyone else after the last 10 years just.....frustrates me.

The purpose of this thread isn't to judge who is the bigger terrorist here.

Head of Islamic Institute at the LSE is speaking on BBC now about how this won't effect anything. Plays down the role of Al Qaeda and says how they haven't been able to strike against the US/Coalition in almost 10 years and do not pose a potent threat to the US.
Bin Laden hasn't been the operational leader of Al Qaeda for some years.

Also, this won't make any difference to any other terrorist organisation linked to Al Qaeda such as the Taliban because they are their own separate entity and Bin Laden only "sowed the seeds" of terrorism/Jihadism but the subsequent "War on Terror" has created more issues than Al Qaeda and Bin Laden ever posed.

He's also saying that a "new, unpredictable chapter has been opened up with US Pakistani relations" with this and is predicting mass protests across Pakistan.

Very interesting. And now the weather, looks like a nice day.

A crappy situation made worse, nice to know he's finally dead but ultimately it means nothing with the war on al-qaeda, theres still millions more of them around the world :(

What a load of rhetoric that really makes no point what so ever.

The point is simple. People cheering and hailing it as progress. I think they're idiots. I'll go one further and bait the probability of tin-foil hat heckles aimed at me and say, I don't just think these people are idiots, but vegetables and sheep who can't see past their noses in terms of goverment fuelled media propaganda.

Go ahead, say it, I know you want to.

David Icke? Is that You? Still think the Lizard men are running the World?

Find it odd that the Americans would be able to conduct such an operation without the Pakistanis raising their eyebrows. It's far enough inside Pakistan that a few American choppers flying in, would be noticed by the military. But maybe I'm just underestimating the ability of the Americans and their tenacity... I do believe that someone high up in the Pakistani leadership/military knew that a operation was going ahead but perhaps weren't aware of the details - It's doubtful if the Americans even knew it was Bin Laden before they came face to face with him either. Then again, because of the trust issues and the accusations of Al Qaeda and Pakistani collusion it would have to be a very carefully handled intel exchange if there was one.
Like I said, I doubt we'll ever know the true ins and outs of the operation.

Northern Pakistan territorially is pretty sparsely populated when compared to most western nations, you could easily run a small insertion/assault operation without Pakistani knowledge, even this close to Islamabad. The staging was probably outside Pakistan and it wouldn't take long to insert a team and complete the operation before Pakistani forces could react.

Even that close to a military academy.

But you didn't say anything like that in your previous post.
I agree, I (and if you read my last post, a leading academic (though I like to think I am one of them also...)) don't think it'll change much (if anything) and we can't hail this as some sort of end against The War On Terror. But I haven't been aware of anyone saying that.
Nor have I heard any reports of the governments denying that Al Qaeda have used Western weapons. We helped supply Afghanistan with weapons whilst they were at war with the Soviet Union so it is expected some of these munitions ended up in Al Qaeda arms.
As to why our PM and the two previous US President's are terrorists, I'm not so sure.
Like I said, you made an evocative post but didn't really make any point.

Your rhetoric aside for one minute, people are fully aware of the collateral damage that the forces of the 'Free World' have made. You have to get this into context though. 9/11 was very real for the people of New York and America so for them this is a moral victory.

really suprised about this. thought it was a hoax at first. I doubt this means the end of the war on terror though

I appreciate that - But it just seems a great risk to take with relations with Pakistan. Like I said - I'm more concerned and interested with how it'll play out in the international political arena as oppose to just jubilant celebration that someone has died. What's your opinion on the ramification's of his death?

Hopefully more details will come out, if only Wikileaks were still around! ;)
